Sorry to disagree with your "30 miles from the coast damage" comment. Houston is 50+ miles inland and tree damage from hurricane Ike's winds knocked down power lines and we were 2 to 3 weeks without power. I don't know of any homes or buildings that were destroyed but 2 to 3 weeks without power is disastrous.

I am hoping for a weaker storm than Ike that just keeps on trucking inland to the northwest. I am hoping that the rain is a good soaking rain.

I don’t think he was saying thirty miles inland is fur enough from ANY storm, just this little troppy. Ike flattened Houston then drove all the way up past Cincinnati dealing death, destruction, and flattened crops everywhere along his path.
