With their Libya bombing campaign dragging on unresolved, France and Britain have been forced to accept ruler Muammar al-Gaddafi may stay there if he quits power, despite calls for international justice.

Britain denied the joint position was a climb-down after it had repeatedly called for him to quit the country, while France last week was the first to openly suggest he could stay under a negotiated settlement.

If there weren’t people dying over this issue, this would be hilarious. One of the solutions is that Gadaffi steps down from power but gets to stay in country. Are you serious??? Really??? This is why these idiots are useless as partners. Send him to St. Helena. They have experience with defrocked dictators...

Where's the press with their quagmire stories?

I haven't heard that term in years...

And your "failed" photo made me laugh this morning. Thank you for that.

Remember when the left defended Saddam Hussein by pointing out the numerous tyrants ruling countries. “We can’t take them all out!”, they said.
Well, they thought they could and we warned them.
“See what happens!” as my mom would say when I did something stupid.

Revere face palm is classic. Nary a word from the media on our unauthorized foreign preemptive war against a sovereign Arab state, it’s quagmire status, our crumbling coalition, or the cost of the war in lives and treasure. No outcry from the principled anti-war left, even as we rain bombs on Tripoli.

These people are useless as Allies.

Obama should never have gone along with this ridiculous scheme in Libya in the first place, but it does show how feckless the rest of NATO is. Kill NATO now, and save the money.

I'm not sure of this, because nations play the game of internatioal power politics with their cards VERY tight up against their chest, but I don't think this is an oil heist (as others have claimed) as the west owns or controls most of the Libyan production facilities anyway.

I think the real motivation is to stabilise oil prices. Libya is not a big supplier of oil (I think the UK gets less than 1% of its oil from Libya. The French only a bit more) but the fact that the country was dissolving into civil war caused the oil markets to get very jittery (possibly they thought the unrest would spread?) Anyway, that pushed prices up at a time when western economies were struggling/in recession/trying to get out of recession. Hence, attempt to resolve situation by intervention. They havent gone in harder because a) they cant afford it b) they dont want civilian morale to crack in Libya and c) it was by no means certain the anti-gaddaffi forces would win.

Incidentally, today Britain formally recognised the rebels as the legitimate government of Libya, and expelled the remainder of Gaddafti's people - so I guess they have decided which way to jump.

Gadhaffi is a former ally of the USA. He will not surrender power after being villified by Obama, and he will rule in Libya long after his present Obama grifted Euro leaders are gone.

Go Ghadhaffi , GO! Win it!

Its a rip ,Pan.

The left truly live in a alterate reality. Obamas venture in Libya has one goal: empower the Muslim Brotherhood and open up the gateway for them into Sub Saharan Africa.

Gadhaffi is also a former opponent of the USA, with whom you have had several shooting matches over the years. He's also been supplying arms to almost every terrorist group in the world for the better part of three decades.

No, I'm not going to shed any tears when he gets his comeuppances. And he will.

Obama villified a man who foreshortened the war in Iraq, saving the lives of hundreds of US soldiers. He he accomplished this by denying the Muslim Brotherhood recruiters their ground in Eastern Libya, and fighting them.

Interesting that everyone forgets immediate history and buys the Obama grift, and involvement in Libya so as to prosecute Obamas personal ideological support of the Muslim Brotherhood in Libya, strategically designed to help establish a caliphate from Yemen through Egypt, Somalia,Northern Kenya, Sudan and now Libya, opening the traditional gateway of conquest to sub Saharan Africa to Muslim Brotherhood terror in places like Nigeria.

It is good that Gadhafi and the Bedoins fight this, and may they win.The world and Israel can well do without such an evolution. And may Obama fail utterly in this gross misuse of our US forces.

Some people want to fight the wars of the past and ignore the reality of today. When you live in the past the future will come up and smack you in the back of the head. Reality doesn’t care who is right and who is wrong. It only rewards those who are paying attention.

I think it was a mistake for both of you to stop taking the medication.

Gaddaffi has been working against US and western interests for decades. He has backed every terrorist group, every insurgency, every cause that can cause trouble. He has never stopped (although he occasionally quietens down when someone slaps him hard) and if he comes out of this crisis on top he will go straight back to doing it. He didn't "save hundreds of US soldiers lives". He couldn't give a toss about American lives. He was fighting in eastern Libya against his traditional tribal enemies, for traditional reasons i.e. power. Did that reduce the effort the muslim brotherhood was putting into Iraq? Maybe, but if he hadnt have been fighting them, he would certainly have been backing Iraq himself, so the question is moot.

The insurgents are NOT all muslim brotherhood, but even if they were, saying you hope Gaddaffi will beat them is a bit like saying you hope Venezuela will beat Cuba it a life and death fight. It doesn't matter who wins, they both hate you anyway.

That's a lie so you're obviously not worth talking to. Just another POS keyboard nutter.

I apologise for my previous post. Its been a tough day.

My statement is NOT a lie. I do not go around deliberately lying to people. It may be inaccurate though, if you know something I don't. In which case, why don't you enlighten us rather than using personal insult. As far as I'm concerned Gaddaffis actions over the lockerbie bomber are a blatant working against Western interests, so I consider that as evidence of "not stopping".
