Reuters) - At least 122 firearms from a botched U.S. undercover operation have been found at crime scenes in Mexico or intercepted en route to drug cartels there,

Mexican authorities found AK-47 assault rifles, powerful .50 caliber rifles and other weapons in late 2009 that were later linked to the U.S. sting operation to trace weapons going across the border to Mexico,

Guns from the program, dubbed "Operation Fast and Furious," also were found at the scene of the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in the border state Arizona last December. It is not clear if they were the weapons responsible for his death.

The sting has become an embarrassment for the Obama administration and its Justice Department, rather than a victory in cracking down on the illegal flow of drugs and weapons to and from Mexico.

It has also hurt ties with Mexico, which has been battling the violent cartels in a war in which thousands have died.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and federal prosecutors had hoped the sting would help them track gun buyers reselling weapons to cartels. But U.S. agents did not follow the guns after the initial purchaser re-sold them.

The House of Representatives Oversight Committee, led by Republican Darrell Issa, and the senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Charles Grassley, have been investigating the sting and will issue the report Tuesday.

Their investigators say at least 122 firearms bought by suspected gun traffickers were found at Mexican crime scenes or caught going to the cartels.

Of the 2,000 weapons sold to the suspected gun traffickers, just over half remain unaccounted for

the Justice Department is also conducting its own investigation The Justice Department said it could only confirm 96 guns recovered in Mexico

That the guns were part of an “undercover” Washington operation is not in doubt. The reason for it is. As is who was really behind it, and what their real purpose was.

Think about the history of this administration and the numerous thugs involved.

Yep.

It was only a matter of time until the media was forced to acknowledge this corrupt, illegal government operation.

Oh good - Fed.gov was selling Barrett 50s to criminals and drug cartels. Many among the ATF wouldn't want law abiding Americans them, but it's okay for them to give them away to Mexican drug dealers.

I wonder if anyone will bother asking how the BATFags intended to recover these weapons from the criminals once the supposed "tracing operation" (yeah right) was completed.

The answer is they didn't intend to recover them. Nor did they have any reasonable expectation of even tracing them.

That's easy. Mexico's government was pre-consulted by America's government.

Any feigned protests we see will be for appearance purposes.

First people were all angry because the media was all but ignoring this corrupt illegal government operation, now when they're reporting about it, you're mocking the wording used?

Come on.

No kidding. I wouldn't want to try and recover a .50 cal without some air support.

The supposed purpose of this program was to track these guns and disrupt the criminal network that supplied them to the cartels. Now that these guns have turned up at crime scenes, I guess that they've been tracked about as far as they can go, unless the Mexican authorities decide to recycle them back to the criminals again.
So, has the gun running network been disrupted?

Hey, maybe we should intentionally flood the Mideast and their Muslims gangs like al-Qaeda, with weapons, rocket launchers, material to produce dirty bombs and bio weapons to see if we can track them down.

This was all about enacting more punitive American gun control, regulations, and eventually eliminating the 2nd Amendment.

Obama's ATF actions also encourage more illegal immigration into the US, as Mexican families try to escape the crime atmosphere. This nudges them to get out.

Obama won't Secure the border and gives speeches to LaRaza. Basically provides a welcome mat.

The ATF has said that there are still over 1,400 guns unaccounted for in Mexico, there were between 200 and a 1,000 guns “walked” to Honduras and new info from a Tampa ATF agent saying that guns went to other Central American countries. That is a lot of guns and every time some show up at the scene of a murder/shootout there will be new press about it. Especially if more LE agents are murdered with them. Especially if Hezbollah in Mexico gets a hold of some and murders some Americans with them.

This story has the potential to re-surface afresh for a decade with all those arms out there.

“...They are. They’re demannding that the US adopt strict gun control measures, including registration!!!...”

Which is their end-game plan all along, and the whole reason they started this “crisis”.

True to communist political agitation; create a crisis, fan it, and then suddenly some up with the solutin to it.
