Chinese jets chase U.S. surveillance jet over Taiwan Strait
Washington Times ^ | July 25, 2011 | Bill Gertz

Two Chinese warplanes intercepted an American spy plane over the tense Taiwan Strait last month in China’s most aggressive challenge to U.S. surveillance flights since a 2001 collision that touched off an international crisis.

According to defense officials, the intercept took place June 29. The two Chinese jets flew from a base in China to head off an Air Force U-2 spy plane over the dividing line in the 100-mile wide Taiwan Strait.

“In general, these reconnaissance flights are conducted in international airspace, as are the PRC [Chinese] intercepts, which happen fairly routinely,” said a Pentagon official familiar with the incident.

“There is no ‘repel’ aspect to them,” he said of reports from Asia that the Chinese jets had “repelled” the U-2 flight during the intercept.

A Pacific Command spokesman declined to provide details of the incident other than to say it occurred June 29 as the Air Force was conducting a routine operation in international airspace in the area of the East China Sea.

Apparently the SU-27s have a ceiling of 62,000 feet.
Pretty impressive but they would have precious little maneuvering capability at that altitude

Salvavida: China will go for Taiwan in months vrs weeks, but this year.

Gunslingr3: I'll take that bet too. What are you willing to wager?

I'd like in on that too.

I'll go a step further and say the Chinese will not attempt to take Taiwan by force this decade or at any time in the foreseeable future.

I have been to Taiwan a couple of times when I was stationed in Okinawa..a nice island with nice people when I was there. Hong Kong was a wonderful city too...
I don’t suppose the current pansy in the WH would come to the defense of Taiwan..why would he, he is a commie himself truth be told..which the MSM won’t do..
If the MSM had done as much digging into 0bama as they did poking around Sarah’s trash cans in Alaska we might not be in this situation now..

I agree. No one who has read the history of Gen. Clair Chenault in China would doubt Chinese resourcefulness for even a minute.

Interesting. I’ve been betting on the chicoms but thought that if the rest of SEA pushed back some they might back off for a bit.

Any links or articles?

What is almost heartbreaking is, American and China were once so closely allied.

Now, due in large part to the spineless “free trade” stupidity of our erstwhile leaders. China increasingly holds American in contempt, and the odds of conflict between our two nations head in one direction:

Toward bad days.

We are fools, to become weak in relation to China.

“The Blackbird was the most awesome aircraft I ever saw! “

There’s one at the Pima Air Force Museum in Tucson. Also Ike’s Air Force One. Also several different Migs. It’s a neat place.

>>Bush the first in 1989.<<

The New World Order Bush.

That’s right. He also became real chummy with Clinton.

New World Order? Yes, that’s what it’s all about. GW Bush could have prevented 0bama from becoming president by exposing the evil bastard for what he is: An avowed enemy of the United States. He had the intelligence on the SOB and did nothing.

Yes, it’s all about bringing on the New World Order and now they have their own sonofabitch in our White House to help finalize it.

All the “bickering” going on now in Washington is just a big game. IMO

I don’t know about the timing, but it’s impossible to see their enormous purchase of our debt as anything but an insurance policy against U.S. retaliation.

” I’ve been betting on the chicoms but thought that if the rest of SEA pushed back some they might back off for a bit.”

They haven’t backed off in the past few thousand years, why would they now? It would dishonor them in the eyes of their ancestors and the Chinese are big on ancestor worship.

At this point in time, China doesn’t have the ability to project its power.

They have one shitty russkie carrier.

I bet their subs sound like rattle traps.
