I'm sure we've ALL run in to people who's eyes just gloss over when you try to explain America's debt problem to them.
I discovered this simple analogy over the weekend, and it seems to sink in to even the dimmest bulbs...
"You are on a bus going 70 MPH, with a stuck accelerator, heading for a concrete wall that is just 75 feet away.
You knew THREE MILES AGO, when the bus was only going 30 miles an hour, that the wall was there, and if you had applied the brakes THEN, no passengers on the bus would be harmed.
But no, you have waited until the last minute, and if you hit the brakes NOW, people are going to get hurt. If you wait even longer, you will have to hit the brakes even HARDER to stop the bus, but more passengers are going to get hurt, when they are thrown out of their seats.
But if you don't hit the brakes SOON, you won't be able to stop the bus, and everyone on the bus will be KILLED..."
IS THIS SIMPLE ENOUGH FOR A LIBERAL TO UNDERSTAND?

No, actually the wall does not exist. It is a figment of those on the far right wing, clinging to their guns and Bibles - and in this case the very CONCEPT of a wall.
More liberal questions:
Is this a publicly-funded bus or an evil, for-profit charter-type bus?
What is the demographic make-up of the passengers?
Are the minorities disproportionately represented on this bus?
Of what political affiliation is the bus-driver?
Liberals want to argue about how much to back off of the accelerator, rather than hit the brakes.
What is the carbon footprint of the bus and is this a busload of union members?
Why didn’t the Bush administration put new brakes on this bus and instead leave it for Obama to have to deal with?
Actually, while your post is easy to comprehend, I no longer knowingly communicate with liberals...... this is another benefit of being retired. ;>)
You are mired in debt, and your credit card is maxed out.

Our corrupt federal government is not setting a good example for the young people of America. No wonder so many people bought homes they can’t afford in USA!

Before we do ANYTHING else, we need to schedule congressional hearings to find out which evil corporation is responsible for manufacturing the defective accelerator on the bus.
