Boehner Calls Rush Limbaugh, Gives Details of Negotiations With Reid, McConnell
Monday, July 25, 2011 | Kristinn

Posted on 07/25/2011 10:11:01 AM PDT by kristinn

Rush Limbaugh said Speaker of the House John Boehner phoned him this morning around 10:30 to brief him on the latest news about his negotiations with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to raise the nation's debt ceiling.

Limbaugh told about the conversation on his nationally syndicated radio program. Boehner said there is a two-tier plan in the works. Step one would cut $1.1 trillion in spending with a $1 trillion increase in the debt that would get the government to April 2012 with no tax increases.

The next tier would be recommended cuts by a joint House-Senate committee made by twelve members, six from each chamber with three each appointed by each leader, Boehner, Reid, McConnell and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Limbaugh said that McConnell is now on the same page as Boehner.

Boehner is getting what he wanted...cuts equal to the debt ceiling with NO tax hike.

Free money now, cuts over the next 5-10 years. Do you REALLY think they're not going to spend for the next 5-10 years? What about the new, additional spending that will be needed next year? The year after? The next ten years?

Democrats HAVE to offer some type of taxpayer paid free handout every election. They HAVE to, or their base won't bother getting out of bed. No freebies, no votes.
Democrats take money from the working and give it to the nonworking every election. That's what they do. That's ALL they do. No freebies = no democrat party.
They CAN'T stop spending. It's suicide.

As much as people want more progress in tackling the spending, we are still one election away.

Correct. We have only 1/3 of Gov't yet Boehner is succeeding in getting the discussion to be centered around cutting and is actually forcing cuts to be made even though we have a radically leftist President.

We will get far more with a Repub Senate and WH but holding the line and even cutting now is commendable.

As SOTH Boehner said on FoxNews Sunday: "Chris, I know the president is worried about the next election, but My God shouldn't he be more worried about the country we have...' you can watch it here starting at 2:13 into the video.

Ok, $1.4 Trillion per year in deficit spending. $1.1 Trillion in cuts over 10 years. Am I missing something?

Exactly. The whole nation is on the way to debt enslavement and our elected "leaders" are engaged in this deplorable Kabuki Theatre.

They want a BRAC-type system in which this “commission” comes up with cuts and taxes and Congress then has to take it or leave it with no debate or amendment, probably by voice votes.

Cuts That Exceed The Debt Hike. The framework would cut and cap discretionary spending immediately, saving $1.2 trillion over 10 years (subject to CBO confirmation), and raise the debt ceiling by less - up to $1 trillion.

The only way this is raising the debt limit "less" than the amount of spending cuts would be if the debt limit increase was for 10 years just like the spending cuts. But the debt limit increase is for less than one year.

Do they really think we are that stupid? Oh yeah, they think we all have the fortitude of Crybaby Boehner.

Cuts to be determined in the future are NO BUDGET CUTS, period. The debt ceiling is raised, which means the Democrats win!

Debt ceiling raise was always in the discussion. That's what Boehner-Cantor have been discussing all along.

Cuts are included with NO tax hikes. That's a win.

Can’t see the need for yet another impotent, ‘bi-partisan’, cross-pollinated, ginned-up committee of career politicians.

This ain’t rocket science. We spend too much. Stop it. Bring the federal leviathan back within the constraints of the Constitution. Done.

Obama still pushing for tax hikes...

Obama still pushing deficit deal with tax revenue

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is reiterating his call for a deficit-cutting plan that cuts spending and that also increases tax revenue by making the wealthy and corporations pay more to help stabilize the long-term debt.

The president made his comments to the National Council of La Raza on Monday as congressional leaders struggled against time to come up with a plan to meet an Aug. 2 deadline to raise the nation’s debt ceiling.

Obama said the wealthy and big corporations have to “pay their fair share, too.” And he alluded to the difficulty of cutting a deal, saying “compromise is becoming a dirty word.”

Don’t abandon the tea party. We could have a Republican president, House, and Senate in 2013, with heavier tea party representation than we have now, and more of them in leadership positions, if we don’t lose heart. Everything that has been done wrong can be reversed.

Illegitimus non carborundum est!

If you haven't seen this, I strongly recommended that you check it out. It relates directly to this proposed "joint House-Senate committee", AKA "Super Congress":

So what exactly is Obama getting? Nothing.

GREAT POINT!

Also, the bigger cuts which will come in an election year will involve fixing entitlements. Once the rate of growth in entitlements is brought under control the scare tactics of the Rats that Pubs want to destroy Social Security and Medicare are gone. What do the Rats have left to run on in 2012, obama's leadership, obama's economy?

>>Every freaking poll out there shows the vast majority of the public wants the debt under control...now.<<

I must confess that I watch this whole thing sort of as an outsider. I sincerely do not think it matters what they do. It’s too late. We are like a bus going 50 mph toward a concrete wall 30 feet in front of us and we are debating how we should apply the brakes. It really doesn’t matter HOW we apply the brakes. We’re gonna hit pretty much at full speed.

That is why I’m only marginally interested in what the congress is doing right now. I’m more interested in getting the last of my stuff out of Seattle and into my new farm in central Kentucky. My future really depends on how self sufficient we can be there as opposed to what the clowns in DC do.

Wasn’t there a spending plan that was adopted into law in past years that applied to future years that they can just pull out now and say.... “follow the law on the books.”

if enough democrats go along with it, the legislation can stand against a veto - and Obama is toast.

it’s not the ideal but I can go along wih it.
