- A mystery man arrested on minor charges more than three weeks ago remains behind bars in Utah while law enforcement officials try to determine his true identity, which he refuses to reveal.

"This is really a strange case," said Lt. Dennis Harris with the Utah County Sheriff's Office. "He just doesn't want to be found."

The unidentified man, who has graying hair, a light beard and is believed to be in his 60's, was arrested on July 1 for trespassing in a parking garage.

He was booked into jail on three misdemeanor charges and has thwarted any chance of release, with or without bail, by refusing to identify himself.

I have my suspicions as to how, and I suspect it has something to do with him living in Utah.

I do too and that's the way you maintain a cult is by brainwashing for reflexive obedience to the point where someone can't even discern between a little protestation or civil disobedience and anarchy.

Exactly. I was too strong minded to fit in in Utah (lived in Provo for a few years).

Miranda consists of rights while being under arrest. Right to remain silent (which he has)

You have not provided a single instance supporting this 'right'. The entire purpose of the Supreme Court, is to fill in the holes that the Constitution does not cover. That's hwy we have it. You keep insisting that you have the right to remain totally, and utterly silent. Please show me, where you get this idea. It appears you have simply declared a fact, that has no basis in reality.

I've shown you 2 Supreme Court finding SPECIFICALLY show you to be in error. Your name, and address are NOT protected under the 5th, or Miranda. Your name and address do not serve to incriminate you, or force you to testify against yourself.

That sure looks like him. Maybe you should e-mail that to the authorities.

Miranda v. Arizona read the full case, including all appeals.

And he cannot be denied due process (which you are advocating) based upon his refusal to give his name. that is against the Bill of Rights.

And actually, if this were DB Cooper, then just giving his name could incriminate him (h/t to lawyer hubby) and therefore come under the 5th.

I don’t see why you keep denying that this man has a right to due process regardless if he gives his name or not.

Utah allows (and does) prosecute under the name “John Doe”. He cannot be held indefinitely, that is a voilation of his civil rights.

Why are you insisting on throwing out the Bill of Rights for a state law? That isn’t how it works.

He has been identified.

http://www.abajournal.com/news/article/john_doe_prisoner_is_identified_and_hes_not_a_missing_da/

A John Doe prisoner in Utah is not a missing Pennsylvania district attorney declared dead on Monday.

Tipsters had alerted Utah police that the John Doe prisoner resembled missing Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar, who disappeared six years ago. But the mystery prisoner has since been identified as a New Mexico man who had lost his job, report the Associated Press, Reuters and the Farmington Daily Times. He is identified as Philip Beavers, though news reports differ on the spelling of his first name.

Other tipsters suggested the John Doe prisoner could be slain Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald; the parachuting plane hijacker D.B. Cooper, or Alcatraz escapee Frank Morris, according to Lt. Dennis Harris of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, who spoke to the Farmington Daily Times. Beavers was identified by a family member.

Maybe it’s just me, but the pic looks an awful lot like the original drawing, advanced in age of course.
