Voters’ renewed anger at Washington spurs formation of third-party advocate groups
Washington Post ^ | July 24, 2011 | Chris Cillizza

The numbers are startling.

......Given all of the above, advocates of a third party — or at the very least another viable option in the 2012 presidential race — seem to be sprouting up all over.

[snip]

The two most prominent are Americans Elect, a group aimed at winning ballot access for an eventual third-party candidate, and No Labels, an organization filled with high-profile names — including former George W. Bush media consultant Mark McKinnon and former Kentucky state treasurer Jonathan Miller — designed as an online home for the politically disaffected. “If you build it (ballot access), they (candidates and voters) will come,” McKinnon said in an e-mail.

No Labels says it advocates for bipartisan solutions to problems and not a third-party presidential candidate

[snip]

“I think you need an appealing big name, an experienced candidate to capture people’s imagination and for the movement to organize around,” said Mark Salter, a longtime aide to Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and a member of No Labels.

What would that candidate look like? “A sane, experienced [Ross] Perot,” Salter said.

[snip]

The only name mentioned who fits Salter’s “sane [and] experienced” description is New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I), although it’s hard to imagine what exactly Bloomberg’s support base would look like in a national race. Businessman Donald Trump, who recently said he might run as an independent, doesn’t meet the Salter standard.

So although the climate is ripe for a third-party candidacy, it’s not at all clear that such a campaign would function as anything other than a spoiler for one of the two parties’ nominees...

Americans Elect
No Labels
Votocracy
Centrist Alliance
Unity08 [(Peter Ackerman now backing Americans Elect]

My Lord those look an awful lot like Progressive buzzwords!

Centrist? Unity? Anything-ocracy?

My bet is that these advocates are not advocating for a Constitutionally Conservative America.

Someone needs to remind these poor losers what they told the conservative base all those many years, “keep voting for us, we can’t win unless you do and we PROMISE we will listen to you after we win. Remember its better to elect the lesser of the two evils.”

They have outed themselves as the liberals they really are.

Isn’t “No Labels” a label?

Perhaps they should consult the artist formerly known as “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince” for a proper designation.

(By the way, I’d vote for Prince before I’d vote for anyone affiliated with an organization that was enamored of Michael Bloomberg or his ilk).

Businessman Donald Trump, who recently said he might run as an independent, doesn’t meet the Salter standard.

But Bloominidiot does?

When the "no labels" bunch first "launched" their silliness I had to laugh, regardless of how many claim "R" after their names, they are all demonrats.

You’ll see throughout history that any undesirable belief or culture will constantly change its “label” whenever the former label becomes associated with the underlying negative aspects of the movement or culture.

Meanwhile, Christians and Conservatives have always been Christians and Conservatives, regardless of how the left tries to paint them negatively. That’s because the underlying principles are sound and right.
The left even goes so far as to attempt to attach a negative label to the right because the prevailing labels stubbornly refuse to take on a negative connotation.

Like Keynesian economics this “never-worked-before” idea rises from the dead every few years to claim more victims.

The Hugo Chavez's of the world love it when voters in their countries are so split they can't launch a large enough base to oppose them. Slowly their opposition leave the country, is absorbed and co-opted or eliminated.

Spot on - excellent analysis.

As soon as I heard of this “No Labels” crowd, it was clear that they were a front group and a diversion.

More crudely, it can be explained thusly:

If you have a can of refried crap, and you package it with the label that says “honey”. It isn’t too long before people understand the word “honey” on a can means that there’s refried crap inside.

So the "evil" Tea Party "activists" now own the (R)??

And the RINOS are setting up a new [yet unlabeled] camp?

Is this why they're floating Jeb Bush?

Just tossing out ideas for "fun."

I have come to the conclusion that America is not capable of correcting this mess with the current system.

This Third Party insanity is all very much a part of what is wrong with America. As much as we try to correct things within any established party they just keep repeating the same mistakes and atrocities.

Even with the Constitution right in front of their faces every day, they violate all it's principles like they never existed or meant anything. Nor do they see it as the supreme law over all legislation or moral conduct. They see it as something they can easily ignore without conscience.

This has become a system of government that has turned it's back on the clear direction established in the Constitution. It will have to fail on it's own completely in order to be rebuilt or corrected.

A Third Party will only guarantee that either of the 2 established parties will dominate, even if that party would lose in a normal election with less than 50% of the vote.

I’d be happy if we had 2 parties instead of 1.

Well, Bernie Sanders just announced on FOX that he wants someone on the left to enter the primaries against Obama. And Cornell West is going on a tour, to speak out against Obama. Paul Krugman and The Nation aren’t far behind.

There are many on the Left who are VERY unhappy with Obama - say he isn’t doing enough to help the unemployed, minorities, etc.

So maybe both the Republican and Democrat parties split. Should be interesting.
