Instead of a Saturday vote on the House-passed cut, cap and balance bill, the Senate will vote on Friday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced. The measure is expected to be voted down on a mostly party-line vote.
The expected defeat of the bill will clear the way for Senate action on a compromise measure to raise the debt ceiling. Reid is ready to start floor action on a compromise plan worked out with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., as soon as this weekend. Talks between House Republicans and the White House on a larger deficit reduction package are also continuing.
The bill, which passed Tuesday night 234-190 in the House, would eventually cap federal spending at 19.9 percent of GDP and requires Congress to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment before the debt limit can be raised.
Democrats have denounced the bill in colorful terms. Reid on Thursday called it one of the worst pieces of legislation U.S. history.
Where will the moderate democrats, like Nelson come down?
I think I know.

Really Harry? And youre one of the worst pieces of feces in the US Senate! Wait, you are the worst piece of fecal matter in the US Senate.
Yep it’s another of those “we have to pass the bill before we know what’s in it” kind of days coming up
Just keep it going and let the dimocrat's take the hit for voting it down then.
Don't cave!
I believe it’s lik a pro-life blue dog or a unicorn...something that doesn’t exist in the real world.
This is the surest sign yet that there is a “Plan B” deal agreed to. Reid would never call a vote now if this was going to pass.
Prepare the tv ads.

Guess Reid doesn’t care much for bills that originate in the peoples house.
You mean just like a GOP spine?
And I guess the absolute worst is the one he co-authored that nobody could read until it was passed, aka the obamacare bill.
Doesn’t a CNN poll posted at FR a little while ago show that 74% of Americans support a Balanced Budget Amendment? The Democrats want to be on record as opposing one?
The Senate can hold fantasy votes longer than fans play online football...doesn't matter. In 12 days the money runs out in DC unless the Senate passes and 0bama signs the House's CCB.
This is going to be a problem for some Dems in the Senate who are up for election in 2012: The Nelsons of FL and NE, Tester of MT, McCaskill of MO, Manchin of WV and maybe Casey of PA. It should be for Brown of OH but he is truly a brain dead liberal.
It may even make some nervous who are up in 2014: Landrieu of LA, Bacus of MT, Pryor of AR, Warner of VA, Kagan of NC, Begich of AK.
These guys have to hate going on record opposing a plan to balance the budget. Especially after to poll that came out today.
The worst piece of legislation was ObamaCare.
Pray for America
Under current Senate rules I don’t think the filibuster can be used in budget bills. So it should be a straight up or down vote. Which means Reid will have to keep almost all of his Senators in the no camp. Which also will doom some of them come 2012.
Just like the pre-WWII German Nazi party, members put the party first and want the party dismantle every single American tradition, law, and religious belief, and replace them with party approved mythology and pagan, party approved, religious rituals like child sacrifice and temple prostitutes.
YES on this
It is a trick
