The key word is “new.”

That means 400k more people lost their jobs last week and filed for unemployment. The stat doesn't include people already unemployed AND people who have dropped off of unemployment because the benefit ran out.

Also, it doesn't include underemployed people.

“How Obama’s Knee-Pad Enemedia keeps doing what they do with a straight face every day defies reality.”

Because it’s their job? If they didn’t do it they wouldn’t be working.

Lol. Good picture.

It was unexpected that it was unexpected. In other words, it was expected.

It is new people going on unemployment each month. Whereas the new people getting a job last month were about 25,000, IIRC.

This is all just a phase in the Total Transformation of America that Obama promised us over and over. Did any of us imagine that the Total Transformation of America would be totally problem-free?

Everything is on track- look how relaxed Obama is and how often he relaxes, parties, golfs. To him, things are running OK.

How come the so-called RNC chair isn’t all over the media every day with these stats....and how come every Pubbie...every time they get in front of a camera, isn’t talking about this..and this only.

Any budget deal is worthless unless more get working to increase tax revenues.

The 400k number is new people filing for unemployment benefits. The government figures that 375k is the number of filings in a healthy economy. Anything above 375k is bad and below that is good. I have no idea why 375k picked, that number seems a little high to me. But for the 375k figure to actually be good or neutral 375k hirings would also have to occur each week.

Actually, you may be right about the Thursday morning reports on this subject. It’s just usually that the MSM seems to have a way of letting some things get buried and then getting bad news out on Fridays for the most part.

Wait until this “Gang of Six” thugs, gets their “Budget Plan” signed into law. The 110% increase in Capital Gains taxes will destroy the Markets as we know them. Which will double the number of unemployed.

Make sense? Think of a sick patient clinging to life in a hospital bed and is very low on blood. Then take a knife and open up a major artery. (Wall Street is the blood of the economy) You know, to “increase revenue” while at the same time, cutting taxes elsewhere.

Upset the patient, the patient dies.

Thursday initial claim numbers are for the preceding week. Monthly numbers come out on the first or second Friday of the following month. It is claimed that 400K/wk is the break-even point between new jobs and initial claims. 'Twasn't all that long ago that number was 325-350K/wk.
