Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld helped organize Rick Perry's foreign policy and national security briefing in Austin last Wednesday, Rumsfeld's staff confirmed today.
Perry's aides have been tight-lipped about the gathering, which National Review reported included former Rumsfeld aides Doug Feith, Daniel Fata, and William Luti, as well as the magazine's Andrew McCarthy and others.
He (Rumsfeld) is watching the current field with interest and is particularly interested in the candidates' positions on foreign and national security policy and their prospects in winning in November 2012.

That's a first-class group of serious and experienced men. Perry is wise to seek their counsel, it demonstrates discipline and maturity, desired traits in a leader.
It would be nice if we knew whether or not any other potential or actual Republican candidate has held such a meeting.

“included former Rumsfeld aides Doug Feith...”
Uh oh. Who are we invading in 2013? I guess Syria or Iran.
Perry needs to get with a real conservative like Pat Buchanan ASAP on foreign policy, not these clowns. They had their time.
HA!
Me too. He's a man's man. But one of the reasons I like him is because of the usual suspects who despise him.
If you want another RINO hand-picked by the GOP ruling class and the MSM, that's your choice.
But when the result is the same, will you realize how stupid you are this time?
I will never forgive Bush for that pharmaceutical program he gave as a gift to the drug companies.
It ain't free enterprise when the government and corporations are in bed together.
Perry is highly capable. Obama is NOT! Big Difference
Congress approved the plan submitted by President Bush. The medication plan premiums are paid by the Seniors, who subscribed to those plans. The prescription plans have come in under budget. However, Obama is trying to dismantle them.
Oy.
Doubt it, Rove helping Perry is like Palin helping Romney, ain't to dark likely.
So what ? Only a couple of years ago, Karl Rove tried to make Sarah Palin the vice president of the United States, I don’t think the 2 of them are sending each other christmas cards this year, though.
link to that Rove / Palin thing?
Are you serious ?
Karl Rove worked for John McCain, he worked for the McCain/Palin ticket, it was his job (and he was paid well, and he failed).
Now does he like Palin ? lol, does a man like getting bitten by a dog ? Rove was opposed to Palin being on the ticket (he wanted Romney), but once she was picked, he worked to get his ticket elected. If you seriously want to read about his role, his documented role, in working for McCain (and later McCain/Palin), feel free to buy the book, "Game Change" or just google McCain and Rove.
Right, do you have links to what you’re typing?

I can also provide links documenting that George Washington, was in fact, the first president of the united states, and also, provide proof that Dick Cheney, did in fact, attempt, to get Bush elected to a 2nd term, if you want, I can also provide proof that Karl Rove, did, in fact, plot, to get Bush and Cheney into the white house, and then did this again, in 2004 (inspite of the fact, that Rove didn't want Cheney in the first place).
Karl Rove, the presidents top political hand since his Texas days, recently gave money to McCain and soon after had a private conversation with the senator. A top McCain adviser said both Mehlman and Rove are now informally advising the campaign. Rove refused to detail his conversation with McCain.
So, he gave money to the campaign, and talked to McCain.
He was not officially part of the campaign.
That’s not a Karl Rove Campaign.
And because it wasn’t a Karl Rove Campaign, Palin was not a Rove Candidate. Like Perry was and always will be.
“Karl Rove worked for John McCain, he worked for the McCain/Palin ticket, it was his job (and he was paid well,”
Prove that statement. That he was “paid well”.
Karl Rove actually gave money to McCain. And one private meeting with McCain is not “paid well”.
I’m not saying you’re wrong, but you haven’t come close to proving that Karl Rove was “paid well” by McCain / Palin.
