19 July 2011 Last updated at 00:07 ET Help A scientist tries to get a lava sample from Mount Nyiragongo in Africa's Great Rift Valley, but gets too close to the boiling lake.
Dr Dario Tedesco, from the University of Naples, one of the world's leading authorities on the volcano, tries to alert the scientist whose life is at risk.
Mount Nyiragongo is one of the most active volcanoes in the world.
Scientists want to take lava samples from volcanoes because it can give vital clues about what is happening deep inside the planet.

Strangely worded headline. I interpreted it to mean that scientists in the lab had a beaker of lava heating over a Bunsen burner and it was getting close to the boiling point.

Step away from the volcano.
Don't touch the hot lava.
Boiling water is hot.
3rd grade science... No PHD required.

Pretty stupid....The same stuff overflowed 5 minutes later. Thre are certaily wiser ways to scoop up the lava...
I'm sorry....I'd fire the guy. I don't want "stupid" working for me.

About twenty years ago, one of the leading “field” volcanologists led a group of scientists into a smoking caldera, where it promptly blew up, killing several and badly injuring many more.

Narrator sounds like Richard Hammond - one of the “Top Gear” co-hosts and frequent BBC narrator.

Strangely worded headline. Yes, "gets too close" implies something happened. But the scientist got away in time. He appeared unharmed and got his suit off without trouble.
He definitely took a risk as scientists typically do, but I don't think this justifies the Journalistic Hype "gets too close".

Narrator sounds like Richard Hammond - one of the Top Gear co-hosts and frequent BBC narrator. The text under the video provides a useful clue:
Find out more about volcanoes in Richard Hammond's Journey To... The Centre of the Planet on Tuesday 19 July, 2100 BST on BBC One.

It's absurd that they don't know what is going on and this will give them the necessary info to fulfill some mission.
We already know how volcano's work. Grant money everywhere!!!
To: winoneforthegipper
when it comes to warming, think globally and what ever you do, don’t act locally next to a volcano!
