John King CNN interview: 5:19 minute video: Could Rick Perry shake up GOP W.H. race?
GUESTS: Erick Erickson [Red State] and Mimi Swartz [Texas Monthly] discuss the potential presidential candidacy of Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Swartz: Formidable campaigner.
People on the East Coast underestimate him at their peril.
Hes relentless.
Perry will fight to the death if he wants this.
King: If he gets in, who gets hurt?
Erickson: Pawleny has most to lose. Bachman loses.
Hurts Romney -- explains in detail.
Palin and Giuliani wont get in if Perry gets in.
Swartz: quoting another pundit re: Bush/Perry -- Bush aristocratic Perry hardscrabble
King: Perry's Greatest liabilities? How will critics go after Perry?
Swartz/Erickson:
Democrats must try to recast his job creation in Texas.
GPO field must go after:
State budget
Health care
Education
HPV cancer vaccine/Gardasil
Segment ended in mid-comment; had to cut away. Will have them back.
To attend public school, the vaccine was mandatory. So in essence, it was forced, unless of course you were privileged and could afford private school.
Who might that be?
I notice this trend and commentary when anyone other than a renegade right candidate gets air-time. Its a weak attempt at discrediting.
"The establishment RINO's and Chris Wallace are working behind the scenes to get your guy into office"...blah-blah-blah. I'm not getting suckered into that hogwash. The reality is, hundreds of people from ACROSS the nation are begging him to run. You discount his chances in areas outside the south before he has even had a chance to speak and appeal to them.
Why? Because you have someone pegged as your darling candidate and he threatens you. my .02
Sure. It is a link with the quote of Palin saying you betcha to Romney’s VP from a reputable paper posted on here many times. I will find it in a bit and post it for you.
If the question is “who looks most electable right now”, I would tend to agree with you that it is Perry.
Perry has a 10 year record on the border. Prior to this legislative session, tell me what he did that demonstrated an interest in anything other than the Bush/McCain border policy. Even in this session Perry isn’t responsible for voter ID, etc. It was the huge influx of legislators from the Tea Parties that got that done. Rick has a track record of saying what he thinks people want to hear while making sure that nothing happens. The sanctuary city bill, Straus’s speakership, and other things that Texans who follow what goes on in Austin would know about.
You seem to have a need for Knight in Shining Armor. If you take that approach, when you discover the real Perry you will be profoundly disappointed. Perry is far better than Obamalini, Romney, Huntsman, Newt, and Pawlenty. He has also done a better job than many governors (faint praise indeed). Nevertheless, he is very good at selling conservatives out if it suits his interests.
Still, even with his many flaws, Perry is worth supporting in the general election.
I guess we’re damn lucky that Rick Perry beat Kay Bailey Hutchison in the GOP primary for governor. Now when she’s history (”herstory” if you’re like Diogenesis) in the senate and Rick Perry is in the White House, we’ll all be safer.
Been there, seen that, buddy. Your granola eatin' crew doesn't reflect the same opinions as the rest of the midwest and other areas. In fact, you choose to live in the most liberal BLUE state, simply boiling over with BLUE since WI and CA came along and went BLUE. Personally, I like the state you live in and even contemplated retiring there, but not with all that BLUE, my friend. I've completely scratched it off the list. Get on back down here where you belong.
It would really help if you provided a link to information because all you do is bash Perry, yet do not name a candidate. Please give links to these accusations.
2007-PERRY speaking IN MEXICO: If you show up illegally, without your card or youre here as a criminal element, Im for throwing the book at those folks, but the issue of people who want to legally, thoughtfully and appropriately come to America to work and help us build our economy we should quickly come up with a program and an identification card to do that. -- Source
These subjects have been discussed at length on various Perry threads. So, you tell me what Perry did to fix the illegal alien problem before this legislative session. You will find that prior to 2008 his policy was operationally the same as the Inside-The-Beltway Establishment R, Bush/McCain policy. If you want a specific illustration, the Texas “Dream Act” is a good example, and Perry bragged about signing that sellout of the people of Texas.
In this legislative session the Tea Party conservatives finally had the muscle to push through voter ID and a few other things. Perry knew that being on the wrong side of that legislation would not be good for his ambitions, so now, after years of vote fraud by illegals and others in Texas, Perry is for voter ID. On sanctuary cities, he made a show of wanting the legislation, but somehow just couldn’t get it through, even though there were sufficient majorities in the House and the Senate to put it through. In the Special Session, Perry could have privately told Straus (who Perry could have quietly derailed from the Speakership, but didn’t)that his kneecaps would be broken if he didn’t get it passed, but Perry was content with having made a “statement”. This is exactly the type of thing he did in his 2008 re-election campaign regarding border issues: he gave us talk, with no intention of following through. “Demanding” Obamalini send troops to the border is classic Rick Perry. It sounds good to the conservatives in his base, and he never has to worry about it actually happening.
I don’t know your reasoning behind pinging people to a now archived article that has been posted many times.

Who did you vote for Governor of Texas?
Hi Mr. American Independent Party Chairman. Nice to see you’ve decided to be upfront about your feelings about the Republican party.
SAY IT -- TWO WORDS -- RIGHT ON THIS THREAD.
Right now I like Rick Perry to evict Barry.
I've posted links to information about Perry. I see the big picture and put it all out there.
I’m not the chairman of the American Independent Party. Nathan Sorenson is. I’m the chairman of America’s Independent Party. Get your facts straight.
My feelings about the Republican Party are based on twenty years of experience inside it, and the gross abuse of conservatives that made me leave it. That’s no secret.
And the forwarding of Giuliani Republicans like Rick Perry is just one more daily reminder of what the formerly grand old party has become.
Like it or not you're sadly mistaken. He is the currently the only one with a $hot. May not be the number one choice but he is conservative and called a tea party favorite leading Obama in NC.
