John King CNN interview: 5:19 minute video: Could Rick Perry shake up GOP W.H. race?
GUESTS: Erick Erickson [Red State] and Mimi Swartz [Texas Monthly] discuss the potential presidential candidacy of Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Swartz: Formidable campaigner.
People on the East Coast underestimate him at their peril.
Hes relentless.
Perry will fight to the death if he wants this.
King: If he gets in, who gets hurt?
Erickson: Pawleny has most to lose. Bachman loses.
Hurts Romney -- explains in detail.
Palin and Giuliani wont get in if Perry gets in.
Swartz: quoting another pundit re: Bush/Perry -- Bush aristocratic Perry hardscrabble
King: Perry's Greatest liabilities? How will critics go after Perry?
Swartz/Erickson:
Democrats must try to recast his job creation in Texas.
GPO field must go after:
State budget
Health care
Education
HPV cancer vaccine/Gardasil
Segment ended in mid-comment; had to cut away. Will have them back.
What will the Democrats do to attack Perry?
“Look what happened the last time we elected the Governor of Texas”
The ads write themselves. And don’t think they won’t do it, because they will, over and over again.
That’s why I’m on the “job.”
I would not support a third party candidate. I still have echoes of "Kan I tawk Larry? Now cheers da deal!" in my head.
There is no third party with the juice to get their candidate elected. The Tea Party is fantastic. What they have done is great and oh so American but they do not have the organization or technology to be successful in this election cycle.
The democrats and republicans have set structures and technology to push their candidates. No third party has that yet. A third party can make a bit of noise but that is about all right now. Nationwide American politics is hard knuckled business. It is a fist fight and it takes strength, structure and stamina to prevail. It is also a science. If you have ever seen the database technology both major parties have at their fingertips you know that they know their markets. They know their numbers. All third parties are right now are entities that steal away those numbers. No thanks to third parties. Maybe someday but not today.
Well, be sure to flag me when you choose a candidate to praise.
Oh please! You may not, but plenty do.
I’m a Texan and I disagree. Strong border enforcement is part of his job, and he has consistently lied and done less than he should.
Hispanics who are Americans generally are supportive of border enforcement. But even if they weren’t, he still has the obligation to protect Texans from illegal immigration. As far as I am concerned, “Hispanics” who don’t support border enforcement need to leave. We are beyond politics on this issue. Weakness on this issue simply strengthens Mecha and La Raza. Failure to deal squarely with illegal immigration is likely to lead to civil war. It also means the spending problem will never be solved.
People will overall respond favorably to a strong principled position. That isn’t Perry on this issue.
IIRC she did the same thing for Michele Bachmann.
.
‘Open border’ Perry?
‘Gardasil’ Perry?
Perry wants passage of a measure requiring every person arrested to be run through the federal immigration databases as part of the Secure Communities program. He also wants to provide the state Department of Public Safety with the authority to make sure someone is in the U.S. legally before issuing a drivers license.
>These measures, along with a ban on sanctuary cities, would provide a clear message that Texas will not turn a blind eye to those breaking our laws, Perry said in a statement.
Texas owes it to the brave law enforcement officials, who put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and communities, to give them the discretion they need to adequately do their jobs, Perry said.

>Gov. Perry has made numerous requests of the federal govt. to enforce the border in Texas including handing President Obama a letter in person when he landed in Dallas last year.
(Obama insulted governor Perry when he turned away and Perry had to hand the letter on the illegals issue to presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett. Obama declined to personally accept it.)
>Gov. Perry refuses to meet/greet Obama in May 2011 at El Paso during his Texas tour.
Perry later declared, If he wanted to meet, I was in Austin.
>Perry signed into law photo ID required before voting.
WHAT have other states done?? (with the exception of AZ Ok and Ga)
What have other candidates stated that they would do?
What has Sarah stated she would do?
What is Backmanns plan?
What did Reagan do?
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/jan/06/rudy-giuliani/yep-reagan-did-the-a-word/
President Ronald Reagan was the first president in history to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. On November 6, 1986, he signed into law the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986, [PUB L 99-603]. In so doing, he set a precedent whereby the United States would not seek to deport illegal aliens, but to reward their lawbreaking by granting them full citizenship.
NEWSFLASH! None of them are going to do much.
We have to take the best of the lot.
The Gadasil vaccine Perry tried to force on Texas girls?
Dead issue.
He never tried to force it.
There was an opt out. It was up to parents to choose
Always.
.
Who do you see sitting in the White House that has a better chance than Rick Perry to address this issue? Someone with a plausible chance to be elected. And it appears you disagree with other posters about how much Rick Perry has done and is able to do for Texas' INTERNATIONAL border with Mexico (1250 miles) that he hasn't already done. Do you give him credit for anything?
That is about the only way you will find out. I'm not going to be posting and pimping whoever I choose every few hours.....
Well you show me where he was weak and could have done something better. Specific policy/law that he either ignored or didn’t pass. How is demanding Obama send border troops weak? Please, specific details if you will.
RINO Perry appears to another Rove-created FLIP-FLOPPER
willing to say anything to help Rove and Soros.
ENOUGH. NO MORE RINOs.
Palin has endorsed a lot of Republicans.
“Wayone” in Post #87 feels Perry’s a RINO and Palin is not.
My point: Palin endorsed, praised and campigned for the Gov of TX, the one he’s calling a RINO.
Sarah Palin also endorsed Juan McAmnesty for his Senate race in 2010, so I’m not so sure about her judgement these days.
