Over the past few months, a Quebec government commission has been studying euthanasia and assisted suicide. At the end of June, its members flew to Europe to examine the issue in countries where the practices are legal (such as the Netherlands and Belgium) and in a country that rejected legalized euthanasia (France).
What is the commission likely to hear? Proponents of euthanasia will undoubtedly stress that the practice is conducted only within tight guidelines. As a recent study by a Canadian doctor shows, however, these guidelines keep shifting and are of little value in protecting the rights of patients. In fact, according to an article published in Current Oncology by Dr. José Pereira, medical chief of palliative care at Bruyère Continuing Care in Ottawa, safeguards are routinely ignored and abused.
Dr. Pereira addresses the safeguards one by one. In the Netherlands, where assisted suicide and euthanasia became legal in 2002, the law states that individuals must give written consent that they want to die. In spite of this, a 2005 study of deaths by euthanasia in the Netherlands found that almost 500 people are killed annually without their consent.

Exactly! The culture of death makes it SOUND like there are safeguards, but these are ignored so they can kill their victims.

The rights of the patients are unimportant. Only the rights of busybodies who believe they have the right to control your end of life decisions.
In terminal pain and agony? Tough. Bummer. You didn't fill out the correct paperwork or jump thru correct hoops and now you will suffer 'cause we said so. According to them, the government not the individual controls the highly personal end of life decision.
While the busy bodies are not related to you, and don't want the suffering in their own lives, they are perfectly will to impose their will on you. Suck it up and suffer.
Two words. Palliative care.
Perhaps, way up the road will be the "euthanizing" of those who are unhappy with oppressive socialized government, "Diversity" or whatever else has become the fad of the day.
Of course there will be the rise of an entire class of "Death Doctors" who will agree to hasten Grandmother's death for a portion of the estate. Old folks get weary and are unusually susceptable to pressure-read the large number of "undue influence" cases in probate law.
The words, 'culture of death' popped in my mind as soon as I saw title.
We already have a group that embraces a culture of death'. It's called Islam.
A West Philadelphia abortion doctor has been arrested and charged with 8 counts of murder in the deaths of a woman patient and 7 babies. The babies were born alive and then killed with scissors, prosecutors said Wednesday.
So much for safeguards.

I wasn’t attacking you. I myself was wondering about your question regarding the crucifix. I’m just a little confused.
Is a person who wears a crucifix a member of the culture of death?

I would say no. If you are wondering about the death of Christ being a focal point, the real message is about everlasting life.
Christ died on the cross, taking our sins upon Him, so as to intercede on our behalf. For those who believe in Him, we will leave all earthly things behind and join Him in Paradise.
The Bible is not a book which calls on us to kill others simply based on their beliefs. The Koran on the other hand, advocates this position aggressively.
