Group targets Mitt’s role in ’02 Olympics

A group of Utah business people who sat on the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic committee have formed a “truth squad” aimed at criticizing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for trumpeting his role in rescuing the troubled games, the Herald has learned.

Utah Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Holland said he’s been meeting with former Olympic officials who plan to roll out an anti-Romney campaign in the coming weeks.

“He just happened to come in at the right time,” Holland said. “Whoever came in at that time could have been the hero. His role has been way overblown.”

Holland said the group came to the Democratic party during Romney’s 2008 run but chose not to go public. This time the group’s members — many of whom helped select Romney to chair the Games — are preparing a full-on assault.

“Mitt Romney tends to spin it always to make himself some kind of a knight on a white horse. That is not the way a lot of Utahans who were involved in the process for a decade and a half view it,” Holland said.

Actually I am happy for this. The republicans now won’t have to spend money on targeting mitt.

Hillarious. Why would Democrats want to defeat Slick Willard ? He makes Utah Rodents look like Birchers.

IMHO, Mutt is even more vulnerable with respect to his frequently made pitch about creating and saving jobs.

Mutt's great accomplishment, Bain Capital, is regarded by many as the ultimate corporate raider that acquires companies built by others, slashes overhead and liquidates operations, then sucks up all of the company's remaining value. In other words, Bain has been likened to a self-serving vulture focused on only the near term consequences of their decisions, exactly like many of the buffoons in Congress and the White House.

The Games were costing X

Willie Mitty managed to maneuver his way into controlling them

and so the games ended up costing X.5 (150%)

Oh noez

How can that be when Willie Mitty is sucvh a “good” businessman ???

Note: Romney refused to allow the Boy Scouts to wear their uniforms identifying them as boy scouts when they volunteeered...his homosexual pals had complained to hi9m...

During the Summer of 2001, when the Mittster was heading up Olympic efforts in Utah, it came to pass that Mitt Romney began realizing that he needed to become a bit more "tight" with the Utah Mormon residents...and thought it might be a good idea to try to shed the pro-abortion image he had gleaned up until that time.

So, in a July 12, 2001 letter to the editor he wrote to a Salt Lake City newspaper, he claimed he “didn’t wish to be labeled pro-choice.”

Of course, what had Mitt Romney claimed in 1994 when he ran for MA Senate? And what would Mitt Romney claim in 2002 when he ran for MA gov?

1994: "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time when my Mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years that we should sustain and support it, and I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice." (October, 1994 Senatorial debate vs. Ted Kennedy)

And then it came to pass that he campaigned hard on being “pro-choice” in 2002:
“I will preserve and protect a woman’s right to choose, and have devoted and am dedicated to honoring my word in that regard… (Nov. 2, 2002)

I’ve been saying this all along. The ‘scandal,’ I believe, was manufactured precisely so Mitt could enter and “save’ the Olympics, thus putting him on the National Map.

The documents that started the scandal were left surreptitiously on the desk of a KSL news reporter (LDS Church media). No one knows who delivered the ‘evidence.’

His main role was to root out mormon corruption of the Olympic games in SLC.
And of course, his solution involved HUGE US gov’t contributions.

He’s always depended on gov’t - or leveraged buyouts.
