The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. But once again, I'll give it a shot.

The Social Security Act, Medicare and (if you remember) Obamacare were not on a referendum for people to vote on. They were forced taxes that the US government guaranteed certain things. This isn't Enron, where certain individuals could be brought to justice. It is the freaking US government. We would have to prosecute every CongressCritter for the last 80 years for complicity. Acquiescence's wasn't the issue...people were forced into these programs.

Do I think SS and Medicare need to be reformed..I absolutely do. I hope they are in a way that is fair to all.

Do we need to pare the over bloated government in a way that they can keep their promises to our lenders and citizens? Yes. And that can be done by shutting down non-constitutional departments (DOE, EPA..etc). That could be done by term limits and the dissolution of pensions and special benefits. Put them all on the same “plan” we are on and maybe we will get a few statesmen...and not professional politicians.

Please quit blaming people that had no choice. Please look to the root of the problem.

Please quit blaming people that had no choice.

They did have choices...many choices.

Please look to the root of the problem.

Look in the mirror. That's the problem.

Americans for decades convinced themselves that the only "viable" and "electable" choices were tax-and-spend Democrats and borrow-and-spend Republicans.

Now those same Americans don't want to pay for the consequences of their electoral retardation.

Well said. My Dad was a world war II veteran who only got about $800 per month. He never voted for a Democrat. He never agreed with all this socialist crap.

He never made much money, but if he could have invested what the government took, maybe he would have done better. This blame game pretending that the “elderly” are all a bunch of liberal socialist scum is beyond ridiculous.

I asked my Grandpa what he thought about Medicare back when it passed. Tears came to his eyes. He did not want it, but Blue Cross Blue Sheild was discontinuing the white cross policy for old folks, and with pre-existing conditions it was his only option. White Cross at that time was better insurance than what was foisted on him.

He was a World War I veteran, and he didn’t like creeping socialism either.

Yes the Republicans are stupid.

I would like to see both programs phased out

But from a political stand point SS and Medicare should be last, not 1st on the chopping block

Cut Obama's Czars, cut foreign aid, cut medicaid and welfare, cut Farm subsidies, The environment and education are no longer the third rails they once were so you can target the NEA and EPA also.

How can you tell a senior you are cutting their social security but we are still going to give James Hansen billions for his global warming nonsense or billions to Archer Daniels Midland.

Make Obama defend those

After the government is stripped down, then go for SS & medicare.
