Michele Bachmann Leaves Church Accused of Anti-Catholic Bias

By James Oliphant July 15, 2011 Taking a page from President Obama’s political playbook, Michele Bachmann has formally left a church in Minnesota accused of holding anti-Catholic views.

According to CNN, the church that Michele Bachmann and her husband Marcus had attended for more than a decade, Salem Lutheran in Stillwater, Minn., granted the couple’s request to be released from their membership last month, a week after Bachmann told a national audience that she would run for the Republican presidential nomination.

The Bachmanns had approached their pastor and verbally made the request “a few weeks before the church council granted the request,” said Joel Hochmuth, a spokesman for the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, the governing body for the church

>> “If it were indeed true that past popes were the antichrist, would not the world have already perished?” <<

.
No, that is a simplistic view of prophecy.

Most timeline prophecies are fulfilled at three increasing levels, the Antichrist Papacy being the second level in this case. We still have the real thing to come.

Protestants don’t really care what Catholics “buy into.” They stopped caring the day Martin Luther nailed his ninety-five theses to the church door. They stopped caring when they were able to read the Bible for themselves in their own language. They stopped caring when they learned they no longer had to buy indulgences from the Catholic Church to find salvation. They stopped caring when many of the early Protestant reformers were burned at the stake by Catholics in the name of the “true religion.”

The Catholic Church is the church Peter established and the only legitimate Christian church? What a lot of hooey!

Where are Bachmann’s guts? If she can be cowed this easily, she does have the cojones to be president.

I intentionally used the words “may” and “perhaps” to underscore the speculation used by some about the Lutheran view. Anyway, I expect the media to use her WELS membership as a club.

"I wonder what anti-Bachmann issue will be the subject of the MSM's attention next week?"

I dunno, but if this is all the ammo they have against Bachmann, they're in deep kimchi. Pathetic.

“They stopped caring when they were able to read the Bible for themselves in their own language”

Latin? Just for fun, when was Latin supplanted in western europe?

“Protestants”

Who are these people? We have over 35,000 varieties at last count and splinter groups among the same denominations just like the Church of England.

I agree with you - I worked for a Catholic Health System where social justice was published as one of the goals of the organization. It permeates the hierarchy of our Govt. It’s not just some Catholics, but avowed Socialists. My question is whether this philosophy is a fully informed one on the part of those certain Bishops or just ignorance of what social justice really means for God’s children. Geez, even the Dalai Lama just announced that he is a marxist.

Well you cant just say someone is the “Anti Christ” and then say it does not mean anything.

The Bible says there will be many anti Christs, but The Real Anti Christ will not be known to anybody until after the Rapture.. He could be on the earth as we speak, but will not be revealed yet, so for any group to say that such and such is THE Anti Christ is not correct.

However like the Bible says there are many anti Christs, referring to anybody that puts themselves above Christ etc.

My Bible does not say anything about a Pope, or that anybody other than Christ was infallible. Only one way to God...Only One mediator between God and man...the man Christ Jesus..

Not meaning to offend anybody, this is just why I am a non denominational Christian. I just try and keep it simple..Jesus died on the Cross for my sins, rose again and is alive today for anybody that will invite him in as Lord of their life etc.

So MB may get some grief for belonging to a Church that may name the Anti Christ

It is a *great* disappointment. He'll come out pro life and pro traditional marriage, but he will not set consequences for abortion and gay "marriage" supporting politicians. OTOH, Brooklyn's Bishop DiMarzio made a stand after the NY vote for homosexual "marriage":

In light of these disturbing developments and in protest for this decision, I have asked all Catholic schools to refuse any distinction or honors bestowed upon them this year by the governor or any member of the legislature who voted to support this legislation. Furthermore, I have asked all pastors and principals to not invite any state legislator to speak or be present at any parish or school celebration.

His entire statement on the Brooklyn Diocesan website is here.

Archbishop Dolan is better than some, but is totally blind when it comes to false "social justice," and will not fight. The "pastoral approach" does not work against those who flaunt evil. Give me a Bishop DiMarzio, a Bishop Bruskiewicz, and a Cardinal Burke any day.

The Catholic Church kept the teachings alive in Latin, pictures and statues until they canonized the Bible [for the Johnny-come-latelys who think Protestants created it].

Unfortunately, your joke is waaaay too true.

I posted my own experience of knowing two sisters in different Lutheran denominations on another thread:

The sister in the Wisconsin synod church would not pray (or allow the rest of her family to pray) with the Missouri synod relatives at family gatherings. It was pretty sick.

I’m not sure, I teach and I see it everyone in my school, although thankfully the administrator is a wonderful lady who hired me simply because I was outspoken and on the *right* side per se.

Most because I can get away with looking and acting like someone who is liberal but isn’t at all. Everyone assumes I’m liberal and so she can do stuff that’s not really there for everyone.

If you look at Vatican I, you can even say what he says about Socialism, all in real time, or what Pope John Paul II suffered and what Father Joe did so too. This isn’t exactly new information either...

Actually, the only complete pre-vulgate manuscripts we all have indicate that the Church did write everything down in the Greek, many dfferent times and in many different places. So preservation isn’t really an issue anymore, unless you are looking at the gulf between Constantine in the 300s and between Christ around 35 or so.

That is the only gap and a gap only of complete original manuscripts. And they all, up until this gap say the same thing that the Chruch wrote down the teachings of Christ in the language used at the time, to great cost and effort preserved them.

Well I happen to disagree, but there’s a great gulf between legitimate disagreements (such as over infalliability), and between calling the pope the antichrist.Luther himself did plenty of things, including butchering other protestants because they did not believe as they did. Doesn’t make him the anti-christ, and certainly not those who follow in his wake 500 years after the fact.

You are very fortunate indeed to have such a principal - my son is trying very hard right now to find a job in a highly liberal female-dominated field: Librarian — Male + Conservative — what are his chances?

Peace be with you, my brother!
