Michele Bachmann Leaves Church Accused of Anti-Catholic Bias
By James Oliphant July 15, 2011 Taking a page from President Obama’s political playbook, Michele Bachmann has formally left a church in Minnesota accused of holding anti-Catholic views.
According to CNN, the church that Michele Bachmann and her husband Marcus had attended for more than a decade, Salem Lutheran in Stillwater, Minn., granted the couple’s request to be released from their membership last month, a week after Bachmann told a national audience that she would run for the Republican presidential nomination.
The Bachmanns had approached their pastor and verbally made the request “a few weeks before the church council granted the request,” said Joel Hochmuth, a spokesman for the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, the governing body for the church

I’m a Catholic and I’ll still vote for Bachmann.
What is news is that the LA Times is concerned about the bigotry against the Catholic Church.
First, this story was planted by a radical leftist, Adam Green whose goal was to create chaos among allies.
The bum succeeded. This story does not deserve this kind of hysteria.
Second, of course there are differences of opinion among members of churches, otherwise we would all belong to the same church.
There is truth to the story but those who are reacting should understand there are differences and it can also be said that Catholics think that all non-Catholics are heretics and are going to hell.
We've all been getting along and to take this liberal's bait does no one any good except liberals.
The Roman Catholics used to enforce parish bounds (did so when I was a kid but I understand things have loosened up these days with the demise of the parochial school system).
I guess Michele belonged to one of those churches where it's expected for you to request to move your membership.
We were analyzing the records of an old Baptist church on the frontier way back when (for genealogical purposes). It was very interesting. One gentleman who'd run afoul of the Deacons and Elders by requesting permission to leave the congregation was actually beaten nearly to death by them ~ and it sounded like they re-baptised him repeatedly.
Put the fear of God into the rest of them I'll tell you.
I doubt any modern Christian body would do that although that's still the Islamic standard ~ and they kill people.
So why did this Oliphant guy think any of this was peculiar?
There’s the heretic issue but even worse, I think, politically, is the RC church endorsement of the whole “social justice” thing. Either they are ignorant that is code talk for socialism/equal outcome (of misery) or they do know it, and that’s why we had Teddy going nuts with the taxpayer dollars. Not to say there aren’t many others who are doing the same thing in Congress, but I believe that is what the driving force was for Teddy.
And I know some protestant brothers and sisters in Christ. :)
We’re fighting the same battle. Blasting the Catholic church isn’t going to help you, anymore then if I were to blast your church for the same. You consider your congregation personal, but do not consider that Catholics feel the same.
We love the Church for what she is, just as you do. I know we have legitimate differences and disagreements, but much of the disagreement is heat and light.
I think you’re criticizing Bachmann for leaving her church and I agree. It makes one wonder what she really believes.

Kennedy was an abomination, but please understand that there are many faithful Catholics who share your same qualms with the social justice agenda peddled by some of the bishops. Teddy, thankfully does not speak for the entirety of the Church, and the bishops do not speak for the entirety of the Church either. There are many, like Tim Dolan f’rinstance who agree with you and are vocal.
Thank you. If I agreed with CAtholic teachings, I would be Catholic. I don’t agree with Catholic teaching BUT I certainly believe there are many very devout Christians in the Catholic church. One of my best friends is Catholic and I know he worries about my salvation because I do not believe all the doctrine of the Catholic church BUT we agree on so much that we pray together and we have no problems. This is the way it should be.
His poor father had held out until his end in 1598 for a return of the Protestants to the RC fold. Of course it didn't happen.
Interesting that the United States is predominantly Protestant of some kind ~ just as imagined by Philippe III ~ but I also think he may have had in mind the idea that we'd come up with some new way here.
That's why we are talking, and I certainly hope working for Republican candidates.

Barack Obama is the precedent for the fact that, regardless of what’s preached in your church, you are not politically liable for what is preached there.
Michelle Bachmann is in the clear.
The most bigoted things I hear about Catholics these days comes from liberals, including liberal Christians.
Wisconsin Synod is one of the most conservative of Lutheran groups. Having said that, Lutherans of all stripes have railed against Catholics for centuries—since, like, LUTHER. Nothing new there. In fact, “anti-Catholic” is probably one of the issues that most closely unites all Lutherans from the Wisconsin Synod to the Missouri Synod to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. No news here—it’s part of Lutheran identity.
BUT... It would have been fun to see main-stream media types take on Lutherans as EXTREME. Oh, well.... Maybe she’ll join the Missouri Synod crowd and we can still have some entertainment; they are still fairly conservative.
I have to agree with posters above—you don’t change churches for politics. Makes me disappointed in you, Michelle. The political winds must be stronger than your faith commitment.....hmmmmm.

FWIW, I am LCMS and totally believe the official doctrine of the LCMS, however, one of the most famous LCMS legislators was that liberal, Paul Simon. I have NOTHING in common with him except our membership was at the same church but he deserved to be excommunicated just like the wack job liberals who call themselves Catholics. They're no more Catholic than Paul Simon was LCMS.

The article doesn’t mention where she will be worshiping next. I wonder if she’s thinking of attending RCIA classes?
