President Obama on Friday kept up the pressure on Republicans to agree to revenue increases in a deal to raise the debt ceiling, claiming 80 percent of the public supports Democrats' demand for tax increases.
"The American people are sold," Obama said. "The problem is members of Congress are dug in ideologically."
Throughout the press conference, Obama blasted Republicans for ignoring what he said is the will of the American people by rejecting tax increases that would balance out spending cuts in a debt package.
"This is not an issue of salesmanship to the American people," Obama said. "I hope [Republicans are] not just listening to lobbyists and special interests ... I hope they're listening to the American people as well," Obama said, citing "poll after poll" showing Republican voters, as well as Democrats, believe in taking "a balanced approach" — including both increased revenues and spending cuts in a plan to cut the deficit.
Obama repeated his warning that the country is "running out of time" to avert a financial “Armageddon.”
"We should not even be this close on a deadline," Obama said. "This is something we should have accomplished earlier."

Considering that about 40% are on the dole and another 30% are Leftist loons, it’s more like 60%, but I think it’s safe to say he has a majority.
We need to eliminate the Capital gains tax, and ALL corporate taxes. Then, cut the Federal budget until it balances.
I am sick of people falling for the mantra "we have problems b/c corporations don't pay enough." The United States has the highest, or the second highest corporate tax rate in planet Earth.
We need to make it "profitable" for companies to operate within the United States. We need to eliminate the EPA, DOE, FDA, etc, so we can once again unleash Capitalism.
The problem isn't that the money is being "parked" it's the fact that the damn government parasite class is spending us into oblivion.

That would be best. Imagine the savings. How many hours a year are "wasted" on the record keeping and preparation of taxes. That would help make the US more competitive and bring capital back here.

The Ryan Budget and Bold should NOT be in the same sentence. You do realize that Ryan's plan increases the debt by over $8Trillion?? Ryan's plan was quite timid.
We need dramatic reductions in government spending and employment, not some "bending" of the cost curve.
Don't worry, reality and the 2012 election will accomplish what the wimpy politicians of today are too weak willed to do.
