House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, just told reporters that he thought Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's so-called "last resort" option for resolving the debt ceiling stalemate should be left on the table.
"Mitch described it as a 'last ditch,'" Boehner said, adding that whatever people think of it at the moment, if no deal is reached, "it might look pretty good a few weeks from now."
The McConnell proposal, which would give Obama the ability to raise the debt limit by as much as $2.5 trillion without Republicans directly voting on it, has been deemed by many as "dead on arrival" in the House, but when asked whether he thought it had the votes to pass, Boehner merely responded, "I have no idea."
Boehner also dismissed the idea of tensions between himself and Majority Leader Eric Cantor, as well as charges that the Virginia Republican has been unhelpful to the talks.
"We've been in this fight together, " Boehner said, standing next to Cantor. "We're in the foxhole. I'm glad Eric is there, and anyone who has a different opinion, they can keep that to themselves."
Nothing like showing your cards D*&^head. Why bother negotiating at the end of the day they are getting a whopper. They are ltao (laughing their ass off)
I can honestly say that I have lost all confidence in the GOP to look out for the majority of American people and this country. I have simply concluded that we are all FRAKED, as with this country, period! =.=
Geez! So what say you (not you Qbert) all of those here who steadfastly defended this weakling?
Shooting themselves in the foot isn’t helping any.
“Nothing like showing your cards”
Didn’t they learn anything from the last debacle in March?
It’s looking like when this garbage is over, Obama will be able to argue that he saved Social Security from the evil republicans.
I dunno. Boehner’s been ok til now - seems he understands pretty well. So, I’m not sure I’m willing to damn him yet.
First, I think the plan was ruled unconstitutional [i have no idea but i’ve read it on some of these threads - something about nixon and reagan?]
Second, considering he’s known the score throughout, it doesn’t follow that he would cave like this.
IMO something else is up. I hope.
McConnell has to be the most disappointing part of all of this. So disappointing.
AP Radio News just 0rgasmically announced that McConnell’s offer of one more dictatorial power to 0bama is pretty much a ‘done deal’.
Way to go Mitch, you, ....... (rhymes with name)
If they screw this up, I may just commit early to Palin if she runs on the hope that we can get some balls in this party. This cave is pathetic. They have the public behind them and Obama is imploding. Jeez.
Oxymorons....jumbo shrimp....military justice....open-minded liberal....Republican leadership.
Those Republicans that do not stand firm in protecting the citizens and the Nation from further crippling debt will lose their jobs in the next elections.
I’m afraid that ole Mitch has screwed the pooch.
He’s got some splainin’ to do. Just exactly how does this prevent further, unbounded spending? Are we hoping obama follows some promises and keeps his word?
NO NO NO NO! DAMN!!!
Just like Reagan. Just like Bush 41. Now this.
i sure hope i’m wrong.
light up the phones.
I am ready . . . He's a democrat-lite . . . a RINO . . . His mind is stuck in the trappings of office . . . has no idea as to what fly-over people are thinking. He is now and has always been a total waste . . . watch . . . He will most definitely cave in . . . like that stupid settlement last March of the 36 billion dollar cut in spending that wound up to be a free $300 million tax hike. He's worthless . . . all mouth.
We are all in a lot of trouble with him and that McConnel in such positions of power.
McConell think GOP can raise a dime or get its base out in 2012 he has lost his mind.
Hey Boehner, it don’t look good now and it still won’t look good anytime.
You and Mcconnelltread lightly.
If you can’t do this one thing, you’re no good at anything, so
should we say bye-bye now?
The choice is this. Keep the Ponzi going or bust the Ponzi. Time to max out the credit cards, owe the IRS as much as possible and eat drink and be merry. We are On the Beach. Down by the Billabong.
I’ve never trusted McConell.
