Pirates disrupting climate change research

Piracy in the Indian Ocean is hampering the efforts of climate change researchers to the point where they have had to call in the Australian Navy.

Pirate activity off the coast of Somalia has increased dramatically over recent years, so much so that a quarter of the Indian Ocean is now considered a "no-go" area.

...

"They're ranging so far up from Somalia that we're having difficulties getting instruments into that area so it's a good quarter of the Indian Ocean [that] is a no-go area.

Dr Thresher says research vessels have been pursued by pirates on a number of occasions.

...

The United States and Australia have come to the rescue in a joint military and research effort. They are now planning to deliver the floats which scientists hope will fill the data hole.

Dr Thresher says the Navy's involvement is vital to the success of the project.

"We're using the Navy to sort of protect our instruments and get them into the right area. We're also asking the Royal Australian Navy to take nine of our floats up into that area on the next rotation to the Gulf," she said.

I understand why our Navy is helping keep the scientists safe but deep inside the dark places of Pan_Yan's heart he wishes he could see another outcome.

I don’t see what the big deal is. Just make up some data from the no-go area. It’s what “climate” scientists do everywhere, anyhow...

I’m still trying figure out why we don’t sink the “motherships” and machine gun the survivors in the water, then lay waste to the coast of Somalia.

Exactly!

And with that thought in mind, why don’t we just discontinue all these this junk science “research”?

Brush up on your Differential equations people!

if Piracy stops Global Warming research AND the number of pirates leads to an increase in Global Warming, the total system behavior is probably going to require some fairly complex DiffEqs!

Exactly. Piracy has been around ever since man first set out on the seas. The penalty for piracy has always been death. Instant. Fast. No questions asked.

But we are so ‘civilized’ today to the point that we as a species have become a danger to ourselves by not recognizing the dangers all around us and reacting accordingly......

Reeses put up a prettier graph but 2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten got it posted first. I’ll wait for the pie charts and the addition of a time component before I decide on a winner.

Global warming is caused by pirates? Then it would be man-made.

If you look at the graph temperature goes up as the number of pirates goes down, which would not only explain the drop in temperature the last decade it tells us we have a worldwide shortage of pirates.

Someone needs to tell Grand Admiral Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherds that the Somali pirates are hunting whales. Then we can see how the pirates cower in fear to spud guns, stinky butter and moderate speed one engine drive bys.
