More than guns: 'Gunwalker' tests very legitimacy of administration's governance
St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 13 July, 2011 | Kurt Hofmann

Posted on 07/13/2011 6:16:16 PM PDT by marktwain

This afternoon, Congressman Darrel Issa (R-CA), as Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, holds the first Congressional hearing devoted specifically to the growing scandal of "Project Gunwalker." As National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea explains, this hearing is merely the beginning, with a second already scheduled for Wednesday, and more in the works. This sequence of hearings has clearly been carefully thought out, with today's laying the groundwork of establishing the administration's obligation to comply with congressional subpeonas--something it has stubborny refused to do so far. Today's hearing, at 1:00 PM Eastern, is titled "Obstruction of Justice: Does the Justice Department Have to Respond to a Lawfully Issued and Valid Congressional Subpoena?" and will be covered on C-Span.

What must not be allowed to be lost in the shuffle here--and the smart money is on "the shuffle" being, much of mass media's wishes notwithstanding, quite significant--is that what is at stake here is vastly larger than "merely" whether or not our own government deliberately facilitated the trafficking of firearms to known criminals who would use them to kill innocent citizens and loyal agents of law and order both in Mexico and the U.S. The enormity of even such an atrocity as that pales in comparison to the question of what would prompt the government to engage in such evil.

We talked recently about Congressman Issa's thoughts on that:

This is not a discovery process of what happened--we know what happened. We know that this administration, at the highest levels, approved a process that allowed thousands of high-powered weapons--basically AK-47 and M-16 look-alikes--to go to the worst of the worst on both sides of the borders, that those weapons have been used to commit crimes, and they have led to the death of federal agents on our

The latest information is an email showing that part of what they wanted were incidents showing multiple sales of semi-automatic rifles to straw buyers... exactly what was facilitated by Gunwalker... in order to provide support for the regulatory scheme that they wanted to implement.

My only problem is the test is over for governance. The media is now being tested.

Over 1,400 ATF-walked guns are still “walking” around Mexico. At least another 200 “walked” into Honduras. When will the next one show up at a murder scene and where?

There is no possibility that this story will go away.

Of course it does. The result? This administration COULD NOT BE more illegitimate; in every way -- it is the Chicago Thugocracy brought to Washington DC.

It may never happen at all. We sat around with bated breath hoping the latest scandal would be the one that took Slick Willy down. What we found out is that RATS want crooked leaders because they will grab more loot for them. The RAT rule of law is simple: when the RATS rule, the law only applies to YOU!

True, but we have more media now than then. Then, the MSM was able to protect former President Clinton, and get him re-elected.

The MSM has lost a lot of credibility and power since then, and we have gained some.

While the amount of media that we have is still tiny, a small amount of truth is quite a bit of disinfectant for the MSMs lies.

obama’s _resodency has been one ugly jigsaw piece after another. That much ugly can’t help nut make an ugly picture. All we can do is hope he doesn’t get to finish it.

I will never give up hope, (or just plain give up) but it really looks like the media lock the leftist have on the dissemination of information will prevent this from ever reaching critical mass.

There are just enough honest media so the story gets told but not even close to the 24/7 Watergate type coverage necessary to keep it in the public’s very limited attention span.

In other words it looks like we have the true smoking gun on this one but it doesn’t matter. The media finally have their Stalin or Lenin in place and they will guard him with the tenacity of jackals, huge herds of jackals aided by wolves and Tasmanian Devils plus some of those monsters from Lord of the Ring. Then add the big Devil himself. Satan, unlike God can not be every place at once, but he can stand guard on his best buddy, Obama full time.

The problem then was that a lot of people really saw no problem with Bill Clinton's relations with Ms. Lewinski, and thought the Republicans were being nosy busybodies. If Mrs. Clinton was willing to let her husband's affairs slide, what right did the the Republicans have to complain about them?

I really don't think the same issue applies here. There is some danger that the administration will be able to convince people suffering from Liberal Mind Fog Disorder both that they are so incompetent as to not realize that letting firearms disappear untraceably into criminal gangs is going to get people killed, and they they are not so incompetent as to be entrusted with control of the government, but I think even a hardcore liberal would have a hard time arguing that the administration's actions aren't sufficiently suspicious that Republicans are justified in demanding some answers.

The MSM has lost a lot of credibility...

Never forget, RATS are evil. If they can't make enough RATS locally then they'll create the conditions for RATS to move in across the border. If that is still not enough they will STEAL the election. Power is their sole concern and they should never be underestimated or trusted.

If this was a just Universe a picture of Clinton would be in the dictionary under the word "corruption". This man was so low he hid his many crimes behind a blow job! He used new scandals to push old ones off the headlines! I'm convinced he had Vince Foster murdered and sold secrets to the Communist Chinese, but your typical American only thinks it was only about sex with this guy.

The power of the old media at the time.

We have moved beyond that point, I believe.

The reason that we are seeing what we are seeing is the surge of new media and the shrinking of the old media.

Clinton's reign taught me that we did not live in a Republic, we lived in a Mediacracy, where the Media made most of the important decisions.

The Mediacracy is now failing, because they can no longer control the flow of information.

It's pretty clear that everybody up and down the line knows where this is headed ~ but it can be speeded up considerably if we go back to the basics.

That would be the career federal employees at the involved agencies who might know something.

We pick out 4 or 5 of them who were in a position to observe and START IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS AGAINST THEM.

I'm sure the whistleblowers already on the job know some good names. This is the way we work our way into the permanent bureaucracy in these agencies to get to the various career and appointed "Mr. Bigs" who need to be taken down to take us TO THE PRESIDENT and his running dog lackeys.

Just pick some GS 13/14 grade folks. Show them the instruments of torture with an impeachment hearing.

BTW, you probably can't prosecute Obama and Holder for these crimes until after they've been removed from office, so the way to get their attention and instill fear in them is to IMPEACH and REMOVE some low level people.

Besides, we can probably get enough Democrats in the Congress to go along with having Congress fire a GS 14 ~ I mean, like, does Congress care?

Can you really blame people for thinking that the Republicans (Stupid Party) would go after him him for the most serious crimes? If people see that the Republicans are going after Clinton for crimes they don't see as too serious, why shouldn't they believe his other crimes are equally trivial?

“We know that this administration, at the highest levels, approved a process”

How high. That’s what I want to know.
