HOUSTON Nearly 140 Texas plants, including some of the nations largest refineries, have reached a deal with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to receive new permits even though a long-standing battle between the Lone Star State and the federal agency is far from over. The EPAs announcement Tuesday that it reached a deal for all 136 companies to apply for new permits came more quickly than initially expected when the agency ruled last year that Texas so-called flexible permits violated the federal Clean Air Act. At the time, Texas blasted the EPA ruling, challenging it in court and saying

I saw the title and wondered why this wasn’t posted on the Gardening thread.
Guess I’ll go water the ‘cukes.

They’ve got to give these plants new permits. How else could they produce whats left of the strategic oil reserve that Obama so generously released. The EPA is not a federal agency with concern for American citizens ... it’s just another political arm of the DNC.
Maybe Glenn Beck’s moving here before we secede...so he’ll be an official Texan :)
I don’t like this at all. This is boiling the frog little-by-little. So “this” time the plants got permits in exchange for the Great State of Texas recognizing the EPA’s hold over the plants. Next time the EPA will tighten the noose. And the time after that trip the trap door.
How did they get these permits without giving Obama a donation?Screw the EPA. Bachmann,Palin somebody get in there and dismantle them. The thought of all of Obama’s commiecrat thugs running it with nice salaries makes me ill.
Permits for botanical type plants will be phased in at a later date.
Why did the plants even apply for fed permits...I thought Texas has the authority to issue these permits...what am I missing here...

Where does it say Texas recognizing their legitimacy? As far as I can tell Texas is not even asking The Federal Governments own employees to reconsider the overall Legitimacy of the EPA...
It is a shame theses company’s were bullied into getting Federal perments. If it were up to me I’d make a serous stand and order the arrest of any Federal EPA agent that attempts to black mail a Texas business by attempting to enforce unauthorized laws.
Indeed I’d like to seen them agents hung for their treasionist assault upon Texas and the Constitution of these United States.
But asking the Federal Government’s own hand picked courts about the limits of its own power is a corrupt idea all around. There can be No justice in Federal “court”, and therefore it is imperative that we find away to avoid being drawn into that most illegitimate of forums.
Read it again - the Fed can go away braggin’ about getting its ass whupped. The House is gonna be GOP for the next decade minimum. That is enough horizon for Texas (and more importantly, Texas investors) to do what it wants under the new President in 2013 — and build some more damn refineries, one hopes.
A bad economy and a TOTUS desperate for re-election gave them some leverage. If Obama’s back after 2012 Texas will pay dearly.
So they apply and the EPA just stalls until ... whenever.
The Chicago way applied from the White House.
So I guess this is what we get for throwing out sanctuary
city laws, tougher borders and the anti groping law. Not so
much for representing the people as for getting the EPA off
our backs.. Nice Trick.
Interesting take. The goal of this administration is to cause electric rates to “skyrocket” (Obama 2008), have gas at $8 (Chu, 2008), and probably worse that won’t say in public. So everything they say and do must be viewed in that context. They are dead set on CO2 reduction and they won’t get there even with electric rates double or triple (will have to be even higher than that). But another approach is to shut down all refineries and force them all overseas. They get their CO2 reduction goal and maybe some foreign campaign contributions as gravy. Certainly it is foreign interests behind the whole global warming deal, only a few Americans are really active in it and most of them are socialists like Soros or paid-off scientists.
