You can forget about Sarah Palin as a Republican candidate, if you want to look silly by fall
The Los Angeles Times ^ | July 13, 2011 | Andrew Malcolm

Posted on 07/13/2011 11:17:39 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Obviously, Sarah Palin can't possibly run for president in 2012.

She's waited too long. Her ballyhooed 'One Nation' bus tour has virtually vanished. Have you noticed any lines to see the movie about her, "The Undefeated"? And that admiring film got panned by some people you never heard of.

Palin's not built any discernible grassroots organizations in early voting places like Iowa and New Hampshire, as traditional candidates do. And it looks like she's not going to pour a couple of million dollars into the meaningless Ames Straw Poll that will be so important for a week or so next month.

Quitting her elected job barely halfway through the first term turned Palin into a national nobody. She's missed a couple of Republican debates already.

Another tea party favorite Michele Bachmann has surged to the front in the first caucus state's early polls. The national media's gaffe detector is on full power for Bachmann and Palin, both mothers of five. And anyway, a large number of American voters say they wouldn't vote for Palin if she was a former governor with one national campaign under her belt.

But there's a couple of little-noticed problems with any facile dismissal of Palin's possible 2012 candidacy: Media derision only feeds those who don't like her already.

It actually strengthens Palin with a wide swath of overlooked Americans who don't trust mainstream institutions but do identify with the mother of five.

Why do you think Palin keeps shooting back at the media and even starting fights when things get quiet? Any media attention is better than none. Ask Rick Santorum.

Also, American voters don't matter for beans right now. American Republican voters do.....

Money quote:

“In a recent Newsweek cover story Palin was quoted as saying she believes she could win a national campaign. But what does she know? She was just a former mayor who thought she could beat an incumbent Republican governor in Alaska who was part of a powerful, entrenched decades-old GOP machine. And look what happened there.

So obviously Sarah Palin can’t possibly run for president in 2012.

Unless she does.”

Many people and Business are relocating to Texas..

And I know that better than a lot of others. I moved my family and my business to Texas, from my home state of California five years ago.

Texas is by far, the better place for my family's future.

That said, people err in trying to give Perry all of the credit for making Texas the success that it is. The people and businesses of Texas are most responsible for that.

Alrighty then!

Leave it to you to find a juicy liberal slam piece to pour cold water on the discussion.

It’s really ironic to me, that a liberal writer for the L.A. Times has a better grasp of who and what Palin is, than a so-called conservative does. Amazing.

Well, I read the piece and it has the usual lib blind spots. Um, no real surprises. Sounds a lot like like talking to my aunt. Most intriguing though; I do notice the inability of many on the left to picture both/and combinations. They can be as flexible as anything on some topics, but come to money and suddenly there’s a kind of rigidly dualistic psychiatric condition that prevents them from visualizing how reducing tax burdens can coordinate with highly focused public sector spending to actually beef up a private sector economy. For me, the writer just made the movie sound even better than I thought it was. I will be seeing it Friday, Lord willing and the creek don’t rise.

Just another noodle head looking to raise his own stature by commenting on America’s favorite presidential candidate.

Yes, I couldn't believe he would write this off handed to Sarah Palin either. Usually ole’ Malcom and his minions are bashing Sarah.

Perry will, if he comes into the fray, take up lots of space. Sarah will be the King or Queen maker and raise lots of dough for the TEAPUBLIBERTARIANS. That will aid alot of pols aside from the Left and Right coasts. There will be no Sarah run and why should she when she can sway Pub voters without having to be smeared by the Left again, again and again.

“And that admiring film got panned by some people you never heard of.”

Why would I care if it got panned by some people I never heard of?

Umm, Yes, that's exactly the point.

“on the contrary” a review that says the movie is bad

The reviewer could be correct. The preview is like the reviewer’s description of the movie. I criticized the preview in an earlier post.

Maybe the media is preparing a new round of attacks on Palin that will be centered around distortions in the movie, to be launched if she actually enters the race.

I feel about Palin like I do about all the candidates - it’s their responsibility to defend themselves against criticisms true or false. They sink or swim.

My guess is still that the movie has already improved Palin’s standing with the public.

I read the column and was not amuzed. There’s enough bashing of Palin without this sort of nonesense. It simply invites those who oppose her to take up space on a thread which would better speak of her attributes, accomplishments and why she should run.

So no...not amuzed in the slightest.

(Palin) ... I would guess she has some pretty big holes in that reportroire, one of which was mentioned as foreign policy.

Well, Obama wasn't too hot either, after all he chose Plugs as VP to get his foreign policy skills !!!
