President Obama on Tuesday said he cannot guarantee that retirees will receive their Social Security checks August 3 if Democrats and Republicans in Washington do not reach an agreement on reducing the deficit in the coming weeks. "I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," Mr. Obama said in an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, according to excerpts released by CBS News. The Obama administration and many economists have

“That is the problem with this mess. The folks that can take the interruption the least, will be the first hit.”
That is no ACCIDENT. That is Chicago POLITICS.
liar
As par with the Pinocchio-in-chief, there are lies then are damn lies......fear-mongering has hit a new plateau with this idiot-ridden administration. =.=
Trying to kill off old people faster!
I think you are right about that. If I recall correctly, social security is very close to running a neutral cash flow this year and doesn’t flip to a significant negative cash flow until 2012 or 2013. I can’t remember if it’s projected to run a slightly positive cash flow or a slightly negative cash flow, but in any event it’s very close to being fully funded by the social security payroll taxes paid by workers and employers. There’s also plenty of income tax revenue flowing in to pay interest on federal debt and make up for any slight underfunding of social security this year. So there’s no reason for us to default on interest payments or not pay social security benefits on time—Absolutely no reason whatsoever. If there’s no debt deal fairly soon, we could have to shut down some bureaucracies (a positive development!) and delay paying government workers until an agreement is reached to raise the debt limit.

Walgreens says NO to retired Military meds.
Last time it was military pay. This time its social security.
This man is so detestable I can hardly look at his face anymore.
Did you believe the left when they claimed President Bush wanted to take Social security away? What he wanted to do is give young people a chance to invest their money for their retirement. He made it clear, that those on social security or close to it can keep it. No way did he threaten them like this arrogant pos does
Yeah, I remember that.
The listing on the right side is in order highest to lowest, as is the chart, highest to lowest.
It makes it very clear where the real money is spent.
No, cervine oculated, it isn’t clear at all. There are better ways of presenting that data.
A key phrase in your post is "take the loss". If I told the government to stop sending me my Social Security payment, "taking the loss" of the money that I paid in for 40 years is exactly what I would be doing.
I wish the media and the politicians would stop referring to SS as an entitlement. I don't say "Gimme, I'm entitled", but rather I say "Give it back to me, I was forced to pay for it for my entire working life".
I DO consider myself a conservative, and I DON'T want a government handout, but I DO want the fruits of my labor.
Best FReegards.
A great graphic. It could even be enhanced by color coding, say codes to indicate what type of good or service each company provides. That detail is given under the paid amount in text that is too small to read.
Well, you should certainly support any taxpayer based entitlement then. How can you be for SSI payments but against any other type of cradle to grave government handouts?
Everyone pays taxes in some form or another that worky s or buys anything. Why don’t we support fully entitled healthcare? Why not fully free college?
It’s very easy to say ‘I paid, so I take’ on any level of program.
Maybe you missed the part of my post where I said "I don't want a government handout". Let me repeat, SSI is not a "handout", it is a "give back". If you don't want yours, that is certainly your choice to make. A number of fine charities would probably welcome your donation if you choose to send them an amount equal to your SSI benefit each month.
Except it’s not ‘given back’. It wasn’t held for you anywhere. It paid for the ones collecting while you worked, and now you’re collecting from the next ones.
A ponzi scheme.
So if I retire tomorrow and apply for Social Security, but the government dissolves Social Security for future participants next week, I will never collect a dime?
