Speaker John Boehner told a closed gathering of House Republicans on Tuesday morning that he was pissed over being unable to reach a grand bargain with President Barack Obama to make sweeping entitlement changes in return for an overhaul of the U.S. tax code.
But Boehner also accused Obama of failing to lead on the impending crisis over boosting the $14.3 trillion debt limit, according to people inside the GOP meeting.
But while Boehner was trying to rally his Republican troops Tuesday morning, he did warn them that they will quickly lose leverage in the debate as the country grows closer to the Aug. 2 debt default deadline and Wall Street and business leaders pressure them to cut a deal.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, who opposed Boehners efforts to cut a grand slam deal with Obama, was just as blunt as the speaker. Cantor told rank-and-file Republicans that unless Democrats drop their insistence on tax increases as part of an agreement to raise the debt ceiling, there may be no compromise possible with Obama and Democratic congressional leaders.
If the Democrats continue to insist on tax increases, there is no viable path forward, Cantor warned, according to sources.
The overwhelming sentiment from House Republicans, according to those present in the room, was that even $2 trillion in cuts over 10 years roughly what is being discussed at the White House meetings isnt sufficient. Republicans want even more cuts, and they want them immediately. Moderate Rep. Cliff Stearns of Florida, a 22-year veteran of the House, stood up and said $2.5 trillion wasnt enough for a deal.
Florida Rep. Allen West emerged from the meeting to say that he didnt want fairy dust spending cuts that are projected over the next decade.

Boehner, stay “pissed”, it looks, at the moment, like you’re doing good on this.
Could not the House pass and send to the Senate a bill raising the limit with some spending cuts in it?
Now it becomes important to start stressing that this would remove the biggest obstacle to financial sanity and would reignite the jobs market.
West has spoken out about gunwalker fast and furiousGate. Bachmann is the head of the tea party caucus. And vote out and fire Boehner he and Obama can go golf in their civilian time.
What is different between what West is for and what Boehner, Cantor, et al are for?
Also: You don’t like the SPEAKER, so you plead with someone you like to run for PRESIDENT?
Non-sequitor.
Yep.
I continue to wonder why the GOP installs castrati as “leaders.”
“Quit going to the WH John. You are a co-equal branch of government.”
No kidding ... add the golf course ... and WH picnics.
Maybe we can start by rolling back the 6% pay raise government staff got recently and the one the DC politicians gave themselves for doing such a “stellar” job (s/) then defund Planned Parenthood, take media matters off 501c3 status then audit their books, audit fannie and freddie mac, audit Pelosi, Soros, and Reid (just because) then cut, cut, cut!
Irregardless of Boehner... I want West as POTUS but sadly he is not running. Bachmann is doing excellent so I can dream for true tea party reform is all.
No, it wouldn’t.
The biggest problem for the job market now is seen in our idiotic trade policies.
The biggest problems for domestic producers is regulation.
Resolving the budget issues in DC won’t lead to a rapid turn-around in employment. Resolving the regulatory idiocy enshrined in Obamacare would help a lot on both fronts, but the GOP has indicated that they don’t have the required testicular fortitude to go after Obamacare.
And in addition to all of the above, the GOP never breathes a word about going after the fraud on Wall Street and the fraud in the mortgage industry.
Politico mischaracterizing again, why on Earth would Wall Street and business leaders pressure them to cut a deal and raise taxes on Wall street and business? Zero and Turbo Tax Tim wouldn't DARE default, it could never be fixed so they could spend again, and Zer0 and the Rats would be decimated in the November, the party that spent America into bankruptcy.
The Speaker has to know that a "deal" will destroy the Republican party and America.
A Zer0-Rat capitulation will save America (and the Rats), and a standoff will save America and kill the Rats.
Hard to believe all the back stabbers posting today. Our guys are holding fast and talking strong but instead of support they get crap. I sure as hell would not want any of the “our guys are going to fold” posters here watching my flank in a fire fight. That is for damn sure.
People have been screaming for weeks that Boehner will try to raise taxes. He won’t. But some people won’t admit their error and would rather become steeped in hatred for one man. Know anybody like that?
It’s time for Boehner to have his staff write up the bill that meets his goals, and call the House into session to consider same. Pass it next week.
The ball is then clearly in the democrats court.
This Kenyan Village Fraud and Muslim Terrorist posing as POTUS has been running $1.6 Trillion Deficits every year of his Terror Hold on the U.S. and Boehner only wants to cut $ 2 Trillion over Ten Years!! Thats Outrageously Stupid! CUT $2 Trillion in this upcoming year in spending! But take it out of the useless overbloated Federal Departments! Cut the Departments of Energy, State, Treasury, INJUSTICE, HOMELAND TERRORISM, Interior, etc. by 25-30% each!! Let the layed off Useless Employees go out and find a real job!! Speaker BONER!! Now hear this!!! STOP THE SPENDING ON USELESS CRAP!!
Obummer has doubled the number of Federal LIMOS on his watch, hired 47 CZARS, and thoroughly P*SSED OF Every One of Our Real Allies!! This Reign of TERROR has to be STOPPED NOW!!
Well, I, for one, haven’t ... but I still think Boehner is a weak, GOP elite (with a drinking problem). He got the leadership position because it was his turn.

Great quote by Rep. West!
