Senate Democrats draft debt-reduction plan (only a "modest" $2 trillion in new taxes)

Senate Democrats have drafted a sweeping debt-reduction plan that would slice $4 trillion from projected borrowing over the next decade without touching the expensive health and retirement programs targeted by President Obama.

Instead, Senate Democrats are proposing to stabilize borrowing through sharp cuts at the Pentagon and other government agencies, as well as $2 trillion in new taxes, primarily on families earning more than $1 million year, according to a copy of the plan obtained by The Washington Post.

With debt-reduction talks under way between Obama and congressional leaders, Senate Democrats are unlikely to adopt the blueprint. However, it has gained broad support among those eager to chart a path to solving the nation’s budget problems without making politically painful cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

“The very strong feeling was we needed to get this into the conversation, because it provides an alternative view,” said a Senate Democrat familiar with the blueprint, who spoke on condition of anonymity because it has not been publicly released. “What’s striking is how modest the changes need to be to get us back on track.”

MEMO TO GOP/RINO'S:

Trading higher taxes for reduced spending on Defense is a win-win for the RATS! Seriously, WTF are they thinking? Emergency spending bills for Defense will pass monthly and all we're left with is HIGHER TAXES AND MORE SPENDING! No GOP is going to VOTE AGAINST a Military spending Bill just before the elections!!

The same thing they were thinking when they caved under Reagan & Bush I.

Republicans are no different than Democrats. It's just a giant joke.

Anytime I hear a plan for "the next ten years" or "the next decade," I think of the Old Soviet Union. They had lots and lots of five year plans. Just half as long and look where it got them.

Hey Washington: budget for this year and maybe next. Any further out and you are lying and you know you are lying. Kicking the can down the road again.

2 trillion tax increase?

Add that to the near 800+ billion already enacted by this idiot-in-chief and one would easily get the impression that when this Idiot promised that not one dime would come out you paycheck, he was merely smoking crack and was lying. /s =.=

It's not a tax-rate problem, but it IS a revenue problem. With economic activity down so low, there are many fewer transfers of dollars from buyer to seller, from employer to employee, and since the govt. takes a cut of almost every transfer, revenues are down a ton.

M3 money is still declining, despite all the dollars the Fed is pumping in, and the velocity/MULT of money (times a dollar in the economy changes hands) is also way down (below 1.0 and declining), which is why Porkulus was so very useless.

To these lefties, it’s always the Pentagon that needs cutting, NEVER welfare or food stamps, especially to illegal aliens.

“Only about $80 billion would be cut from Medicare, Medicaid and other federal health programs, and nothing from Social Security.”

I thought the Rats said Medicare and Medicaid are off the table?

More bribes for their constituents.... Any American that would vote for such a plan deserves to have their citizenship revoked they have put self over country... Any Politician that concludes it is better to tax the people to pay for spending on entitlements should be found guilty of treason, impeached and imprisoned.

Some have forgotten that it is the United States of America that is at stake in this idiotic political game.... The people should revolt and take their country back from anyone that would subscribe to such and idiotic plan as this.

Just one more question, In my best Peter Faulk voice, what happened to the $500,000,000,000 that was going to be cut from fraud and waste to pay for your commie medical plan?

"Nice shoes, Mr. Obama. Oh, and just one more thing...

It's probably just me, but there's something about this new plan that doesn't add up."

I really apologize for not bringing this up earlier but.....

What happened to the 500 Billion that was going to be cut from fraud and waste to pay for your commie medical plan?

If only that were true, but they know the power of incumbency and name recognition.

How many friggin’ times do these morons have to be told it’s NOT A REVENUE PROBLEM...

They dont have to be told. They already know that. They just want more of our tax dollars for them to spend and play with.

Politicians are like having a drug-addict child in your house.

They steal your cash to spend on their little power drug. They steal your stuff and pawn it to get money to spend on their little power drug.

When you catch them, they lie pathologically to get away with it, and promise never to do it again.

When you put your head back down to start working again, they're on your dresser drawers like white on rice, stealing MORE money.
