WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A $649 billion defense spending bill for next year easily passed the House of Representatives on Friday after four days of debate in which war-weary lawmakers sought to curb President Barack Obama's combat operations in Afghanistan and Libya.

The measure, approved 336-87 in the Republican-dominated House, would raise the Pentagon's base budget for the 2012 fiscal year beginning on October 1 by about $17 billion over current levels, despite intense pressure to slash the $1.4 trillion U.S. deficit.

The House cut about $8 billion from Obama's overall defense spending request, voting to provide about $530 billion for the Pentagon's primary budget and another $119 billion for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Obama asked for about $690 billion for military spending for 2012.

Time to start pulling troops and other foreign officials from many places in the world..

Time for Hyundai to start making TANKS.. and planes..
Also time for Japan to get busy.. or learn to speak Chinese..
The Germans need to stop killing their babies and importing muzzies for factory work..
The French need to buy a few oil producing countrys..

The Mexicans should block the border -OR- prepare to give up Baja California..
The Iraqis need to pay us back in oil for all the FREE freedom..

Yes.. I have many other ideas.. like making TREASON, sedition and espionage punishable offenses in America..
Gang warfare in Americas big cities should be training grounds for Seal training..

AND the Mexican border should be training grounds for all of americas special forces with live ammo....
Mexicos Cartels should be shaking in their Italian leather sneakers..
AND the america democrats that enable them..

OH! YES I’M AN OPTIMIST.. willing to make many foreign pessimists..
Time for americas conservatives to get busy.. in an unconservative way..

The measure, approved 336-87 in the Republican-dominated House

There are only 240 Republicans in the House. That means nearly 100 Democrats had to vote for it if all Republicans voted YES.

It had large BIPARTISAN approval. The language above slants the story in a way to suggest Democrats had no part in this "evil" Defense budget.

Secondary note, if all “noes” were Democrats, 87 votes would only be 45% of their caucus.

“Were’s the money coming from? Can we afford it?”

I think it’s coming from the Constitution (at least the baseline military spending). It would sure be nice if people were this critical of the other 99.9% of government programs, starting with Social Security...

No doubt not as much ‘pork’ as Social Security and Medicare, where we still dole out billions of dollars to millionaires.

Too bad we not able to zero-in that WASTEFUL spending, but instead spend our time attacking the Constitutionally-mandated military spending.

Look at it like having cancer and either going to the hack your insurance company offers, or getting the best specialist available. Do you want to leave a lot of money and die soon or do you want to live and be broke?

We should be cutting the defense budget, not increasing it.
We should be slashing government spending in general.
If a Repub would actually propose a decrease of $1.6 trillion that included defense spending ( but at a lower rate than general govt spending) he would gain some legitimacy.

“I didn’t know the constitution had a bank account.”

Yea, that makes sense. If you want to attack our military, I suggest you go to a friendlier site - we support it here and defend it against CHEAP SHOTS.

A $17 billion increase. I thought we were gonna cut everything, across the board. Does this mean they could not find one penny of savings, not one single instance of waste, fraud or abuse? Unbelievable, they can’t seem to help themselves.

Guess again. #1....No. #2....No. Don’t you believe they couldn’t find some savings in the defense budget including some social programs and pork? Most rational thinkers would say yes. No reason to be nasty towards me.

What is it with liberals that the first place where they want to cut is in the very place that allows us to be free. The amount that we could safely save would not amount to one campaign trip or vacation for the king, but that would be out of the question.
There are plenty of other places we should look at first, but that is the first place paulbots and other anti-Americans want to look at.
