Grassley would be supportive of a special prosecutor in ‘Gunwalker’

Sen. Charles Grassley, (R-Iowa) ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said on a radio interview today, while he’s not calling for a special prosecutor to investigate Operation Fast and Furious, the failed operation to track guns across the Mexican border, he would be supportive if Chairman Darrell Issa, (R-Calif.) of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform called for one.

In the interview on the Steve Gill Show, he had a couple of other interesting things to say.

He said three things came out of the interviews with Ken Melson, the Acting Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

1. It wasn’t just an ATF operation. FBI and DEA were involved and knew about the operation.

2. This wasn’t controlled by ATF, the U.S. Attorney in Phoenix was in charge.

3. Contrary to the information the investigators had been given by letter, everyone inolved knew guns were going across the border.

Listen to the interview here.

People are getting confused. Project Gunrunner was a bone fide program under Bush ..continued on into Obama’s administration.

The question is when , how, and why it turned into the current disaster.

OH.
I just figured it was a typo or something.

Sorry for the false alarm / non-smoking gun.

I haven’t ever listened to Chris Plante..will check him out. I listen to Levin every single day...LOVE HIM!! I have all of his books and our small family foundation has been giving to his Landmark Legal for many many years.

The talk show guys have gotten lazy on this deal imho. It’s building slowly though, so have heart. Like someone else said..it may not be time for a special prosecuter yet because it’s not so public anymore after one is assigned. Issa needs to bring up the administration officials for some more hearings on CSPAN!!

I believe Issa has the power to pass on a recommendation.

SispseyStreetIrregulars said that Holder was in Florida right now...perhaps to work on covering up the latest Honduras revelation.

Perhaps it's time for the local Sheriff to enact a no-knock warrant with their SWAT team.

Good point on the loss of public view when it goes to a special prosecutor. Not sure I agree with using this as an October surprise though. We don’t need to play those kind of games imho. By next year there will be other crimes of Obama Inc. that need investigating...the man is completely lawless at this point and his chickens are coming home to roost every single day.

Besides...IMPEACHMENT would be a better ‘October Surprise’...LOL!!

The Governor of Arizona can ask for a special prosecuter (I think) and then Issa can go on investigating and having hearings as well.

Only the Chairman can issue subpoenas, so I assume the same is true for calling for a SP.

Grassley, as Ranking Member, can do neither.

BTW, Grassley is still alive? This dude is a spineless POS. Why doesn’t he retire and fully disappear?

Give me a break! Grassley ain’t no DeMint. But he is probably better than 96 other senators.

Yes project gun-runner started under Bush, but it was a whole different set of operating rules. Guns could walk about as far as the curb and then seized, not allowed to go in to the bad guys hands.

This is the reason the REAL power to investigate is by Issa in the House. He is the chairman and has authority to subpoena and investigate.

“I haven’t ever listened to Chris Plante..will check him out. I listen to Levin every single day...LOVE HIM!!”

No one like Levin — impeccable character and essential listening on matters of law and Constitution. I always want to know what he thinks about a matter.

Chris Plante is unique and refreshing. I have no idea who to compare him too. Local (for now) but broadcasts from the belly of the beast in Wash, DC.

Was a former lib CNN Pentegon correspondent who had a dramatic ideological conversion. No one on the air is more relentless in calling out the MSM and naming them for what they have become. Does the same with Obama, jihadists, fascist dems, and lib obots.

He packs more “talking points”/dead-on slams in one sentence than anyone else on radio. I actually think he has taken the “talking point” principle to a new level with wit and facts. Also takes many calls, and no one better. He needs syndication...only a matter of time.

If I miss Levin, Rush, or Plante (generally the case these days), I will skim the Rush & Levin threads to see what they discussed (and whether I want to download), but Plante I download always because I find him so refreshing.

Upon expiration of the Special Prosecutor statute, only POTUS can appoint same.

It will require enormous public and political pressure to make that happen.

Think Watergate.

Howdy Podnuh. Can you tell me why Nebraska got the Cornhuskers moniker instead of Iowa in view of Iowa being the largest corn producer in the US for a number of years?

Also, since y’all have “hawkeyes” (keen sense of sight), who is gonna win the Iowa caucus?
