Should Texas Execute a Mexican? Rick Perry Will Decide (No, a Jury decided this.Perry can just stop)
the atlantic ^ | Chris Strohm

Posted on 07/07/2011 1:27:26 PM PDT by bestintxas

The case of a Mexican man scheduled to be executed on Thursday in Texas threatens to disrupt U.S. diplomatic relations abroad and creates a politically volatile dilemma for Republican Gov. Rick Perry, who is considering a run for president.

Unless Perry or the U.S. Supreme Court intervenes to stay the execution, Texas plans to execute Humberto Leal Jr. at 6 p.m. Central Time for the 1994 murder of 16-year-old Adria Sauceda.

The International Court of Justice ruled in 2004 that the United States violated the rights of Leal and more than three dozen other Mexican nationals on death row because law enforcement officials didn't advise them of their right to have consular access to officials from their home country under international law.

Some foreign-policy experts say executing Leal might have profound international consequences, and the Obama administration last week asked the Supreme Court to prevent Texas from doing so.

Perry, however, has shown no sign of backing down. And the case has thrust the conservative governor into the international spotlight as he weighs an entrance into the presidential race. That introduces politics into any decision he makes about Leal.

If he stays the execution, he runs the political risk of being called weak by conservatives. Allowing it to go forward, it could cast Perry as a staunch conservative who doesn't give in to the demands of Washington and international pressure. But it also invites comparisons to former President George W. Bush, who was criticized for a go-it-alone approach on foreign policy.

Isn’t that something, Mexico gets all high and mighty about the “rights” of a murderer who is getting the death penalty but doesn’t give a rat’s rear about all the murders who control their northern states.
Another thing, since when does any other state or the United terrorist nations have anything to say about the justice system in Texas. This feral human committed rape and murder in Texas. He was tried, convicted and sentenced to death in Texas by Texans. No one cried fowl during the whole process. Now at the last moment, they libs are howling?

Illegals want all the same rights as citizens UNTIL they are in a trial and convicted guilty, then they wanted to be treated like a immigrant......

Perry should just sign a Executive Order granting this scumbag “amnesty citizenship”. Then they will execute a Normal citizen instead of an Mexican citizen, problem solved.

I think you are right. Interesting, isn’t it, that the liberal race pimps generally aren’t mentioning that the girl brutally raped and murdered was Hispanic.

If this was the other way around, the American would and should be executed. Mexico wouldn’t hesitate to carry out justice for the victim.

And plenty of goobers here on FR wanted her pardoned because she found Jesus. It was disgusting.

Should Texas Execute a Mexican?

Of course!

Why is this even a question? Americans are killed daily in Mexico without the benefit of ANY kind of due process, trial or jury.

When in the US, Mexicans are subject to US laws; if unable or unwilling to risk criminal behavior stay home. Just like Americans are subject when they go to Mexico, if they are stupid enough or arrogant enough or ignorant enough to do so.
Fry the murdering sucker already! This is one prerogative that the feds have not usurped : state punishment for state crimes. Let's make sure we keep it.

Next thread, please.

Perry should shoot the guy himself.

A few rounds by Dick Cheney would be the perfect prelude to Rick Perry dispatching the murder to eternal punishment.

“threatens to disrupt U.S. diplomatic relations abroad”

Does it, really? That sounds made up. I don’t even think it’ll affect the provocateurs in the UN who pressed the issue, as their attempted intrusion was obviously a ploy, not to be taken seriously (by anyone who’s not the president).

It ain’t complicated, Rick. If you try for the “illegal” vote, you can kiss the conservative vote goodbye. End of story. We’re about to find out if Perry has any McCain in him.
