Should Texas Execute a Mexican? Rick Perry Will Decide (No, a Jury decided this.Perry can just stop)
the atlantic ^ | Chris Strohm

Posted on 07/07/2011 1:27:26 PM PDT by bestintxas

The case of a Mexican man scheduled to be executed on Thursday in Texas threatens to disrupt U.S. diplomatic relations abroad and creates a politically volatile dilemma for Republican Gov. Rick Perry, who is considering a run for president.

Unless Perry or the U.S. Supreme Court intervenes to stay the execution, Texas plans to execute Humberto Leal Jr. at 6 p.m. Central Time for the 1994 murder of 16-year-old Adria Sauceda.

The International Court of Justice ruled in 2004 that the United States violated the rights of Leal and more than three dozen other Mexican nationals on death row because law enforcement officials didn't advise them of their right to have consular access to officials from their home country under international law.

Some foreign-policy experts say executing Leal might have profound international consequences, and the Obama administration last week asked the Supreme Court to prevent Texas from doing so.

Perry, however, has shown no sign of backing down. And the case has thrust the conservative governor into the international spotlight as he weighs an entrance into the presidential race. That introduces politics into any decision he makes about Leal.

If he stays the execution, he runs the political risk of being called weak by conservatives. Allowing it to go forward, it could cast Perry as a staunch conservative who doesn't give in to the demands of Washington and international pressure. But it also invites comparisons to former President George W. Bush, who was criticized for a go-it-alone approach on foreign policy.

If we allow our laws for treating scum like this to be decided by outsiders, then any animal that wishes can cross our border, rape and kill our kids and get off.

How many Americans could get away like this?

Do we wish to have protected classes that make us citizens second class?

Another reason to take every illegal and get rid of them from our country.

I know one thing: if it was my 16 year old daughter, there would be no debate at all.

“Surely Rick knows that if he stops it he can kiss is Presidential aspirations buh-bye.’

I do not think that Perry will factor his presidential aspirations into the decision. This decision will be no different than other clemency requests. Unless Perry is convinced that the individual deserves mercy or a trial issue has not been resolved fairly, he will not intervene. I highly doubt that he will intervene. He will not be influenced by our Dear Leader’s request.

Perry must be doing something right. Just today, I’ve read where the liberals are attacking him by associating with “hate groups”, and now they are starting into him with the death penalty crap.

He’s looking like a winner!

The Left did the same thing to Bush when he was Texas Governor.

There was a woman who killed somebody and while in jail said she became a Christian and should not be executed.

Bush was expected to run for President so the MSM made a big international story about it and people in Europe were already hating Bush even before he became President.

Rick can kiss his chances good bye anyway ~ but in this case we have a Mexican who murdered a Mexican woman in the United States and forgot to tell her she could get consular assistance if she neededit.

I think he's gotta' take a ride on the gurney Fur Shur.

Then the Mexican government can tell us just how these victim-women can get that consular assistance they seem to prize so highly.

Hey, does that mean all those illegals are NOT subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, and neither are their kids even if they're born here? Does Mexico claim powers above the language of the 14th Amendment? If so I think we got a solution for their horrible shortage of American visitors~ they get all those kids back!

The illegals want it both ways. If you come across one who’s been here since childhood, the liberals scream you can’t deport him because, legal or not, it’s the only country he’s ever known and he truly is an American. Now this guy is saying, “Hey, no way am I an American. I’m a Mexican”. Anyway, this law is meant to protect foreigners who are strangers in a strange land- not some guy who’s been here since he was two. I say, give him the chair and, if doesn’t work the first time, re-fry him.

I almost said that too, but I have been getting flamed enough lately.

The International Court of Justice should be busy going after Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries where they stone live people to death for adultery, chop off their hands for stealing, and behead with a sword for more serious crimes, before they complain about United States. Here we use humane methods to execute CONVICTED serious criminals.

But of course The International Court of Justice will not bother with the Muslim countries because they will get the middle finger every time. They have better chance with US since we have so many pointy headed liberals here.

You Asked: "Do we wish to have protected classes that make us citizens second class? "

Answer: Americans have answered this question with a resounding, yes! Americans will destroy the nation and die rather than give up their tolerance, equality and cash flow.

Exactly. Besides Perry has been to this dance before, just a couple years ago. Jose Ernesto Medellin was put down in 2008.
