~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Happy Independence Day From Patriots Point, South Carolina! Mount Pleasant is a suburban town in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States, within the CharlestonNorth CharlestonSummerville Metropolitan Statistical Area. At the foot of the Arthur Ravenel Bridge is Patriot's Point, a naval and maritime museum, home to the World War II aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, which is now a museum ship. The Ravenel Bridge, an eight lane highway that was completed in 2006, spans the Cooper River and links Mount Pleasant with downtown Charleston. The history of Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum began in the summer of 1975 when the legendary aircraft carrier USS Yorktown appeared on the horizon of Charleston Harbor. A few months later, the USS Yorktown was dedicated as the first ship of the Naval & Maritime Museum on the 200th birthday of the United States Navy. Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum was officially opened to the public on January 3, 1976. Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum would become one of the largest museums of its kind in the world with the addition of other Historic Landmark ships like the destroyer USS Laffey, known as The Ship That Would Not Die, the Balao class submarine Clamagore and the Treasury class Coast Guard cutter Ingham (the Ingham would later move to the Miami Dade Historical Maritime Museum in 2009). Priceless war planes used during wars and conflicts spanning from WWII to Desert Storm are featured aboard the Yorktown's 40,000 square foot hangar bay and atop the 888 foot flight deck. Patriots Point is also the home of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and their official Medal of Honor Museum with tons of interactive exhibits. Located landside is the only replica of a Vietnam Support Base in the country as well as a Cold War Submarine Memorial paying tribute to the sacrifices and triumphs made by the men and women during the Cold War. Visit Patriots Point HERE!! FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT~Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.

Good morning, dear ((HUGS))
I did. Hubby grilled chicken for dinner while I made side dishes and then we spent the afternoon watching shows we had recorded. Watched DC fireworks from the safety of my bed.
How was your holiday?

All the big firework events around the city were canceled because of the rain. But we got to see some nice fireworks fired by a nearby neighbor. :-)

My neighbor and I loaded the BBQ with chicken, beef, pork and sausage on Saturday. His son and future DIL were in town so he wanted to have food for the weekend. He had a fairly large chicken, a pork roast and sausage. It was all gone by Sunday evening. I still have about 1/2 chicken and a small chunk of pork.

Well, we had a great fireworks display Saturday night.
Of course I didn't notice it because I went to bed around sunset as I always do and I sleep like a log.
The company that was planning to do the display backed out at the last minute so they found another company to do the display.
Our county did have a burn ban which is still in effect. The ban did include fireworks but exempted public displays like the one we had here in Comanche.
Marlow cancelled their display.
This part of the country's been so hot and dry the last several days that the authorities are showing zero tolerance. You light a firework and they fine you and/or put you in jail.
We did get a nice little rain shower which cooled things off, we were above 100 yesterday.
But, I think it's going to take much more thann that to break this drought.
Bo and I did go out to the lake on Saturday. We had a great time out there. There was a man fishing out in the heat.
I also drove out around Waurika Lake on Saturday. Quite a few campers and boaters and fishermen and women out there.
All in all it was rather hot. Just too hot to do much of anything.

Sorry that you haven’t had much needed rain out there.
I think with the wildfires out that way a lot of people probably have zero tolerance. I worried about the fires even here where we’ve had some rain.
We’re not as hot as you but Sat. & Sun. were both hot and humid, didn’t want to go outside much.

I had a somewhat busy weekend but still managed to find some time to R&R.
We went Sunday morning to see Transformers 3.
Yesterday I managed to get a large batch of fresh green beans cooked up for dinner. I’ll be eating those all week. LOL
