Kansas Shutting Down All Abortion Clinics
Townhall ^ | 7/1/2011 | Katie Pavlich

It's official. Every abortion provider in the state of Kansas has been denied a license to continue operating as of July 1. As we reported last week, strict new state laws put in place this month threatened to close the remaining three abortion clinics in Kansas. The staff of one of these facilities, a Planned Parenthood clinic in Overland Park, initially thought their operation could survive the strict new standards. But on Thursday afternoon, Planned Parenthood announced that the Overland Park clinic have thus far been denied a license to continue operating—effectively cutting off access to legal abortion in the entire state.

The new law, which takes effect Friday, establishes new standards for abortion providers—standards apparently designed to make compliance difficult. The rules require changes to the size and number of rooms, compel clinics to have additional supplies on hand, and even mandate room temperatures for the facilities. Given that the rules were released less than two weeks before clinics were expected to be in compliance, many providers knew they wouldn't be able to obtain a license to continue operating. The laws, often called "targeted regulation of abortion providers," or TRAP laws, are an increasingly common legislative maneuver to limit access to abortion by redering it tough, if not impossible, for providers to comply.

Another example of Right-Wing EVIL: Powerful, racist white men who deny our basic rights to SAFELY, MORALLY, HUMANELY stop things that are NOT HEARTS from beating and safely, lovingly, deposit these bits of human-looking flesh into dumpsters.

This is exciting. Babies will be saved.

Hopefully they will grow up to be productive conservatives who will vote the liberals out of power and save our county too.

Regardless of the intent, everyone should be disgusted that this wasn’t done long ago. Who the hell thought that such medical procedures could be exempt from the standard levels of hygiene and safety expected from other medical procedures? That they can’t pass should show for all they don’t actually care about the women.

About damn time we started using their own tactics against them. I love it and I hope we keep doing it.

They're applying to the abortion providers the same health and safety requirements that pertain to every other outpatient surgical procedure.

Even the ones that don't kill 50% of the patients.

The article is a bit misleading. As I understand it, abortion providers have been operating for decades with just a fraction of the regulations that other out patient medical facilities in KS have had to operate under. This is despite the fact that they do potentially life threatening invasive procedures on a regular basis.

This new law basically says that they now have to operate under the very same regulations that every other facility in the state that does the same class of procedures does. The only thing that these people could remotely make a case for is that the deadline didn’t realistically give them the time to come into compliance.

Personally, living in the area, and knowing how liberals behave (don’t believe the hype; Kansas is not a rock ribbed Red state by any stretch of the imagination), I think the true reason that none of the abortion mill owners seriously thought that they were going to have to follow the law. They thought the liberal judges would stop its implementation.

Kathleen Sebelius didn't care about the health and safety of the women. All she wanted was the campaign funds killing babies delivered to her.

Must break her parent's hearts to know their daughter is a sociopathic killer.

Seeing that Obamacare seeks to apply the same level of control to the rest of the healthcare system, they will have a tough time claiming the new regs are too onerous. Unless they are willing to undermine Obamacare.

Think about it. The goal is to save the lives of babies! It’s hard to articulate it but that just hit me. We all realize that abortion is not about an abstract issue but the life of a baby but I often forget that. Babies will be saved and not have to suffer a painful death because of this legislation. How could anyone not want that? I know the answer but it’s still so weird.

My little boy just turned 1. Why would any semi-sane person want babies like him to ripped to pieces and not do anything to prevent his murder?

Probably, but maybe a few babies will live, which makes this effort worth it.

It probably won’t be a great victory for the pro-life movement (though it could be) but it is a victory in that lives could be saved.

I’m sure you know all that, I’m just saying.......
