Saw "The Undefeated" in Orlando Last Night - Quick Review
The Undefeated | 7/1/2011 | RightFighter

Last night, I had an opportunity to go see the new movie The Undefeated at the Pleasure Island theaters near Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I was flying out this morning to go to Chicago, so it was a perfect fit for me to see the movie, then stay at my hotel near the airport for an early morning flight. Let me tell you - I am SOOOOOO glad that I took the time to see this movie!

The movie is presented in three acts, and it goes into detail about Sarah Palin's rise as a small-town mayor in Wasilla, her appointment and subsequent resignation from the Alaska Oil and Gas Commission, her decision to take on Murkoswki and run for governor, her selection as McCain's running mate, her decision to resign as governor after the election, and her more recent support for and identification with the Tea Party movement.

Through commentary by Andrew Breitbart, Mark Levin, Tammy Bruce, and several members of Palin's inner circle from all the way back in her days as mayor, the story is told in what can best be described as a high-octane narrative. The pacing of the movie is incredible - like someone is breathlessly telling you a story that they can't wait to tell. The tone is set early on, though, as the first few minutes give you a quick scattering of some of the vitriol that has been aimed in Palin's direction by various opponents since August of 2008. This is overlaid with a biblical quote about a good tree bearing good fruit and a bad tree bearing bad fruit, and the verse that says "by their fruits you shall know them."

There is a lot of red meat in this film for Palin fans. We get to see video and pictures that have never been seen on the national stage before, including interviews with Sarah when she was mayor of Wasilla, family photos, and speeches in front of the Alaska legislature. The pacing of the video continues to build up to the point of the Republican convention, and at that point, they play a large portion of Sarah's speech to the convention along with commentary interspersed into her speech. I got goosebumps several times and actually teared up in a couple of places as well.

I thought the issue of her resignation as governor was handled and explained very well. Anyone who has questions about that should see this film, and they won't question it any longer. It was a courageous and smart thing to do for the benefit of her state.

The last portion of the movie is spent talking about the Tea Party movement and tying Sarah to it. It doesn't give her credit for starting it - but it does say that the same forces that are so supportive of her candidacy are the kinds of people who formed the movement, and it certainly gives her credit for embracing the movement in a way that no other politicians have. There is a part where Andrew Breitbart calls out the spineless Republicans (he calls them eunuchs) who have allowed her to be attacked so mercilessly and have done nothing to back her up. Everyone laughed when he called them eunuchs.

The movie then ties Reagan to the Tea Party, with Mark Levin making the point that Reagan was NOT the Republican establishment when he ran, in much the same way that Palin has bucked the establishment throughout her career. I kept wondering where the name of the film came from - "The Undefeated." I think I finally realized that the filmmaker wasn't trying to say that she's never lost, because certainly she lost the election in 2008 (well, McCain lost the election despite Sarah's best efforts to show him the path to victory, but that's for another discussion). I think what he was trying to say is that her SPIRIT has never been defeated. She is an optimist who understands and accepts the attacks that are coming her way, because she knows that she is engaged in a fight for the very soul of this country. In that regard, she will never be defeated.

Great movie. Please go see it!!!

By the way, there was a young lady sitting next to me who was so cute (we were on the front row behind the disabled seating). I showed her and her parents some photos I took at a couple of Sarah Palin rallies in 2008. If she is a Freeper, I hope she'll see this and say hello to me.

Sounds like a wonderful movie.

And yet... There are still people out there who wonder if she’ll even run.

I hope to see it... I read the Faith and Values of Sarah Palin. The coverage of early years was terrific, but the coverage of the later years seemed to have many holes.. It sounds like this movie covers the later years very well.
