Don't doubt it. Just look at the vote in NY-26th last month. A man who ran on the Dem ticket 3 times previous signed up as the "tea-party" candidate, running on the "I'm angry with both parties!" platform. It took months to educate voters that his candidacy was a fraud - but the 8% that he pulled was enough to give what should have easily been a Republican seat to a Democrat - who didn't even live in the district!!!
You forgot your sarc tag ;-)
Let's see.. There's no Republican president who back-stabbed the base and raised taxes, nor a senator who somehow lost every ounce of their personality during a campaign and gave the impression that he 'deserved' it.
At a guess, I'd say that this would be more the excuse for the Republican party to go all liberal again (colloquially known as 'Running to the center') and ignore the opinions of a huge block of voters to pander to a group that wouldn't ever vote for a conservative, much less a liberal wearing a (R) after their name.
I predict, if he does run, and does get any traction, it'll be because he's busy talking about the issues that the Republicans almost constantly hide from. And anyone who refuses to 'vote the line' will be ostracized for 'letting Obama win.'
Got a good idea, Republicans, how about fighting to win for once?
“I assume he’ll be playing “the Perot” to pull Tea Party votes from the Republican nominee.”
Yes, exactly.
A designated vote-splitter so Obama can win reelection with under 50% of the vote.
Businessmen are always the best shills for this since they can self-fund and draw the fiscal cons away from the GOP.
The fix, apparently, is in.
I guess that would depend on the quality of the GOP candidate.
