Watch below courtesy of a YouTube account titled, no joke, BachmannLovesGacy. The gaffe: She claimed in an interview with Fox News that she shares the spirit of another famous Waterloo, Iowa, resident, John Wayne. But John Wayne never lived in Waterloo; John Wayne Gacy did, which means this is either (a) another sloppy factual error a la her claiming that Lexington and Concord are located in New Hampshire or (b) some sort of Freudian slip that proves she secretly identifies with lunatics or something. (Bachmann loves Gacy!) Her critics will insist theyre sticking to the first narrative but their read on Bachmann has always been that shes evil and/or nuts. See, e.g., Matt Taibbis long profile of Bachmann in Rolling Stone this month asserting that shes grandiose crazy, late-stage Kim Jong-Il crazy or Colbert King recently dismissing her as Barbie with fangs. Its embarrassing that she wouldnt know that the Duke lived in Winterset, Iowa, not Waterloo, given that shes been selling herself over the past few days as a proud Hawkeye, but no one will care in a day. Without the Gacy angle, though, to nudge along the shes nuts storyline, you probably wouldnt have heard of this; it would have been dismissed as her mixing up two town names that begin with W and that would have been it.
In fact, its even lamer than that. It turns out there is a Waterloo connection for John Wayne:
Bachmanns campaign pointed out to ABC News today that actor John Waynes parents did live in Waterloo, although the actor himself did not.
And a little internet research proves that point correct.

Nowadays our little monsters learn somethin' called Social Studies where they don't bother with geography . . . too much for the "educators" to learn . . . nothin' much to learn if you teach them "earth worship" and "green science," if you know what I mean.
Look at her other non-gaffes: Paul Revere's ride (she was right again) and her comment about harkening back to 1773 that the idiots in the libtard media made fun of until they realized (or did they) that the Tea Party WAS in 1773.
No apology of any kind. And yet, on a daily basis, you can go to NewsMax, click on jokes, and read at least 3 to 4 daily Palin-is-an-idiot-type jokes (old recycled Polish jokes from the 70s) that they also share with George W., and not a single one, ever, about the absolute fool of an illegal alien Jew-hating, Christian despising, muslim who lives in our White House and who hasn't visited all 58 states yet. Not once. Ever. Never.
So far, the reaction might not be as bad as we feared.
I have tried several searches for “Michele Bachmann” throughout the day on Google News.

An hour ago, they didn’t have hardly anything on it. Now it is their second leading thread, plus the Google people have put a nice little box at the top of the search results page with the infamous quote:
“Well what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That’s the kind of spirit that I have, too”
So far, the MSM attacks are not as severe as I thought they were going to be.

According to the book Duke: Were Glad We Knew You by Herb Fagen, Clyde and Molly Morrison - actor John Waynes parents lived in Waterloo early in their marriage but they moved to Winterset before the birth of son Marion Mitchell Morrison (he changed his name to John Wayne professionally).
A reference to Obama signing the guest book somewhere (the
Queen of England I think?) and dated it with the year 2008 - just a month or so ago.
Called a flake by being asked the question by Wallace the other day followed up by this.
IMO she is possibly toast, and if Palin was thinking of staying out because of Bachmann she should now fully dive in.
PS, Palin never said anything about seeing Russia from her house, that was a SNL comedian Tina Fey that made that line up.
Ah! Now I get it. :)
I think we have been too passive in responding to this stuff. We need to intelligently forcefully throw this stuff right back in their face.
lol...
Could Waterloo Iowa be MB waterloo?
One should really have their facts correct when one opens ones mouth on camera, a gaff a day is not going to do her a lot of good. Yeah she was probably just playing up to the locals but she has the national media whores fact checking every word she utters.
I was being nasty funny...Obama signed the guest book at Westminister Abbey in London....May 24, 2008. (It was last month).
‘Stand up Chuck!’
I'd guess the locals knew it immediately after she uttered that comment.
This sort of error shouldn’t happen. You can verify John Wayne’s birthplace at Wiki and many other places on the net. When people rely on their, or some other person’s memory for information that is not used often, then they’re asking for trouble such as this. Have seen it happen in other fields as well.
Other politicians have their gaffes, but now Michele has one that will follow her for a time.
Very true. The media has been building her up for two reasons: 1) Michele is this month's ABP and 2) so it can tear her down if she appears to become the GOP candidate.
But, posters are correct. Compared to Zippy’s gaffes, this is minor.
Does SOMEBODY have a complete list of Obama gaffes??? I lost track of so very many. Definitely well into the hundreds.
....and on and on.....but the mainstream press ignores it all......
The media in all 57 States is probably getting their panties in a bunch over this one.
