In the 1850s, on the steps of the Waco courthouse, Wallace Jeffersons great-great-great-grandfather was sold. Today, Jefferson is chief justice of Texass Supreme Court. The governor who nominated him also nominated the states first Latina justice. Rick Perry, 61, the longest-serving governor in Texas history and, in his 11th year, currently the nations senior governor, says these nominations are two of his proudest accomplishments.
French cuffs and cowboy boots are, like sauerkraut ice cream, an eclectic combination, but Perry, who wears both, is a potentially potent candidate for the Republican presidential nomination because his political creed is uneclectic, matching that of the Republican nominating electorate. He was a 10th Amendment conservative (The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people) before the Tea Party appeared. And before Barack Obamas statism especially Obamacares individual mandate catalyzed concern for the American project of limited government.
Social issues, especially abortion, are gateways to the Republican nominating electorate: In todays climate of economic fear, a candidates positions on social issues will not be decisive with his electorate but they can be disqualifying. Perry an evangelical Christian, like most Republican participants in Iowas caucuses and the South Carolina primary emphatically qualifies.

The Republican contest probably will become a binary choice Romney and the Not Romney candidate. If Perry becomes the latter, he will do so by his visceral appeal to social conservatives, and by trumping Romneys economic expertise with Texas exceptionalism:.....

I like Sarah the best but I could happily vote for Perry also. The vaccine order had a parental opt out. I was in the Army and had to get a lot of vaccinations that I thought were stupid or downright unsafe (Anthrax),so maybe I have more of a problem than most people getting riled up about any vaccination order that includes an opt out. The TTC was not a big deal to me either, the plain truth is that I-35 sucks and is inadequate for the traffic it handles. I remember thinking on more than one of the times when I was stuck in a traffic jam on 35 that it would be nice to have a main north-south road in Texas that was not closed for hours every time there is a big accident on it. He could have gone about it differently, but any way he did it, somebody would have bitched. I mean the options are limited. You can have a private company do it and charge a toll to pay for it or you can have the state do it and raise taxes to pay for it. Either way, something will eventually need to be done about I-35, the solution will likely use imminent domain to some extent and people will surely complain about how it is done. The governor who does finally come up with a solution will undoubtedly be called a RINO for years to come over it.
I understand. It seems there are many things you do not know.
Palin was trying to win, not lose
She wanted to win the Texas Governor's election? Whoa.
many in Texas cant stand Rino Rick, she was trying to drag him across the finish line
She helped a candidate whom THE PEOPLE dislike? Really?
The Short Bus dropped you off at the wrong station.
Tardville, 15 miles. Get walking.
Over Obama?! How dare he!
And that right there is a case of Sherlock Holmes's dog that didn't bark.
Rattlesnakes don't always rattle, either -- sometimes they just strike.
The SPP/NASCO Supercorridor ("Trans-Texas Corridor") is a major NWO project. U.S. Senators have lied about its existence, and it's hard to find references to the U.S. congressional committee(s) that oversee its budgets, and the bipartisan co-chairmen that run it. It is a major case of, "this is too important to let the Little People know about, so they can't spoil it! WE WANT OUR MONEY, WE WANT OUR PROJECT," and blah, blah, blah -- "all your bases are belong to us" etc., from international money and faceless Lords Ordainers, commanding our servants to serve them ahead of us.
That Perry would not only accede to, but actually foment in office himself, such a superordinating piece of garbage makes him palpably the People's Unservant, and a servant of the secret power behind the so-called New World Order.
People like that shouldn't be allowed even to linger on the sidewalk near the White House, much less stand for election to the office.
No more RINOs or moderates for me.
&&&
Same here. And if RINO Will is for him, you know Perry’s not a good choice.
I love Sarah, but even she makes mistakes, e.g., endorsing McCain. I am not a “Perry hater”, I just don’t think he is sincere. Seems like a nice fellow, but I just get the impression he is saying what he needs to say to get elected.
He also chose the only one nominated.
Choosing someone not in the running would have been better?
Or should he have backed Obama?
Sarah cannot win.
(Sadly. I love her too)
Gore voted radical left in '85 thru '88 too.
Whoever occupies the White House, if he does not address the immigration issue forthrightly and stop the "anchor baby" phenomenon and all the rest of it, will simply be turning the White House over to leftist Democrats for the next four generations.
Are you prepared to be discriminated against because you don't speak Spanish? It will happen, if you do not use your "gateway" (thus George Will) to exclude candidates who will not defend our interest on this point.
Voting for Perry for the GOP nomination is giving your country to people who don't, and never will, care about your interest: millionaire employers and penniless fence-jumpers who want to work for the multimillionaires who don't want you. And now, this isn't about landscaping jobs -- this is about welding jobs and L-1 and H-1B jobs, too.
This is about the whole ball of wax, the globalist agenda of starving the American middle class into submission by playing off whole populations against one another -- playing God, just like the man in the big white house once did with red-necks and ex-slaves.
In 2007, former Fed governor (and Democrat) Alan Blinder came back from the Davos conference in Switzerland and warned us about how a series, a procession, of U.S. CEO's got up in front of all the foreign bankers and moneyrunners and promised up and down that they had Seen the Light, that their programs going forward were all about the same thing, to offshore and outsource as much of their budgets as possible, to squeeze out American employees from American jobs, to make the inconvenient American middle class unemployed and unemployable, to make our payscales and buying power Go Away, to make the First World cease to exist, to make the whole world the Third World -- cheap, cheap people serving a tiny, Third World minority of the ultrarich and ultrapowerful. You see the fulfilment of those promises happening right now.
And you're going to vote for the Davos candidate, the Bilderberg candidate? That's what you'll be doing if you vote for Rick Perry.
So he predicted the only good option ahead of time.
Or should he have endorsed Obama?
Amen, Pastor. Sarah bump!
Recently he was jogging with his dog. Don't know if it is an Urban Myth but a coyote came charging at him and his dog. He shot the coyote dead!
I hope this is true anyway!
He seems to be handling Texas business pretty well and looks darn good in a pair of jeans! Still some wonder why he hasn't fixed the Texas/Mexico Border unless he is showing with his actions that this just might be a gauntlet to federal government to handle Defense. I think this is possible but kind of ch#cken sh#it. Too many police have died in Texas and often it is an illegal who perpetuate multiple crimes.
Somebody should ask George if he trusts Perry with nuclear weapons.
Nice fat clue there -- Perry is definitely the candidate of the RiNO's now. Their Judas horse to lead the Tea Party people into the RiNO corral and beat Sarah.
Good luck with that, when people get a look at the Real Deal conservative who walks her talk.
