CHICAGO (WLS) - Chicago's new top cop says the accessibility to firearms in America is an extension "of government-sponsored racism" that goes back to the days of slavery and Jim Crow.
Speaking to parishoners at St. Sabina Church earlier this month, Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy took to the microphone after Father Michael Pfleger spoke about gun control.
McCarthy said the topic of race is a sensitive issue "because everybody's afraid of race" but that he wasn't afraid to broach to subject.
So here’s what I want to tell you. See, let’s see if we can make a connection here. Slavery. Segregation. Black codes. Jim Crow. What, what did they all have in common? Anybody getting’ scared? Government sponsored racism."
"Now I want you to connect one more dot on that chain of the African American history in this country, and tell me if I’m crazy. Federal gun laws that facilitate the flow of illegal firearms, into our urban centers across this country, that are killing our black and brown children," he said.
"The NRA does not like me, and I’m okay with that. We’ve got to get the gun debate back to center, and it’s got to come with the recognition of who’s paying the price for the gun manufacturers being rich and living in gated communities," McCarthy said.
McCarthy illustrated his point by recalling a crime scene investigation while he was a police official in Newark, New Jersey where five children were shot, two of whom were killed. McCarthy said when he got home, he turned on his television to unwind and find an episode of "Sarah Palin's Alaska" showing.
"She was caribou hunting and talking about the right to bear arms. Why wasn't she at the crime scene with me?"
It’s bad enough he said all this, but the venue was Father Pfleger’s St. Sabina Church, which is a Catholic Church. All this was said during Holy Mass. When will the Cardinal pull the plug on Ffleger?

Most black victims are victimized by the criminals we coddle. Allowing concealed carry would do more to help lowere the black crime rate than just about anything else.

This has got to be one of the top 10 stupid quotes I’ve ever read, and I’m 55 years old. Here’s a good response:

It appears as if this moron was throwing red meat at a black audience and using Sarah Palin’s name as an applause line. He is wrong on everything he said but his audience doesn’t know and doesn’t care, any more than the Superintendent does. It’s all race and hate and this ‘top cop’ eagerly joined in the hate-fest in Chicago. No wonder Obama looked like he was brilliant if this is what passes for an authority figure in Chicago government.
Liberal insanity will eventually attack, it starts with freedoms, regulations, then taxation, and then violence when union/public workers are not fed their “fair share”.

If requiring picture ID prevents minorities from voting, the Form 4473 should pretty much exclude minorities from legal firearm purchases.
And most (not all) gun stores are NOT in "urban centers".
I think that this is evidence that the price of crack has come down to where this guy can afford it.

The victim was white. The assailants were black. A gun would have come in handy for the victim.
Chicago has one of the highest murder rates in the country, so I don’t think we need to go to them for advice.
