Mayor Tom Richards released a statement Wednesday afternoon, which says he has seen the video of Emily Good's arrest last month. Good was arrested while she was videotaping police conducting a traffic stop in front of her home.

The video has been posted on YouTube.

Standing in your own yard videotaping the police is obstructing governmental administration? I don't buy it.

Does she have a paid in full and up to date valid government issued photographers permit?

What ticked me off was the comment the cop made to her. Something like, "It was what you said before you started taping that concerns me". Seriously?! How convenient that she just happened to say something before turning on the recorder.

This cop came off like a pompus jerk. He is the one who should be punished - not her.

This can't be obstruction. Because how would things have been different if the woman hadn't done any videotaping?

This woman was arrested for the crime of acting like a free citizen in a free country.

I hope a good lawyer hits the city with a lawsuit, and fast.

One does wonder how video taping caused “obstruction”? It was maybe at worst a bit of aggravation to the government jackboot bullies... who think they don’t need to pay no mind to no stinking Constituion!!!

Me neither...and what sort of idiot fascist charges someone with a crime for videotaping????

I hope she fights this to the bitter end and wins.

Big.

I seem to recall other arrests like this being thrown out of court with prejudice.

Maybe someone could look up the relevant cases?

Heard about this yesterday.

Seems like she was at least 10 feet away. Not sure why the police were afraid.

Looks like this should have been a "no call" on the police part.

Ignore her.

Having a locked GATE, and a nice sturdy fence stops them from coming on to my property. You can film as much as you want then. I watched this video, this kind of thing makes ALL LEOs look bad. The day of the friendly neighborhood police officer is long gone. They have an US vs. THEM mentality, and if that is how they want it... That is what they get.

I read some other stories on this woman, apparently she has had some run in with the police in her neighborhood before. And what is meant by the officer "before you started taping"?

I think Kodak has moved out of Rochester. This would mean that the pole leese don't have much to do. There probably is a drug problem but who doesn't.
I say, if you're on your own property you have the right to video anything on the public area( if there was a bank robbery can you film that).
Walk down any street in NYC and you're on camera so what's the difference

Rochester is a crazy city. The cop has a problem though and now the police department has a problem.

The city was great when I was a kid. It has lost 1/3 of its population in 50 years (300,000 to 200,000)....as it grew into a welfare haven. High school graduation rate is less than 50%. But teachers are still raking it in...

AND TEACHRS JUST GOT ANOTHER RAISE IN ADDITION TO THEIR BUILT IN RAISE.

This happened recently in Las Vegas too. Man standing in his drive way photographing the police arresting someone in his neighborhood. He was assaulted by an officer, arrested, his camera was confiscated, and he was charged with battery on the officer. Happy ending at least. See http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2709580/posts

Doesn’t she know that the slaves must follow the orders of their government masters without question? If the Gestapo, I mean police, say that you cant stand on your own property and videotape something happening out in public, then they are right and cannot be questioned!

This country so needs a revolution to overthrow the tyrants that tax us, regulate us, bully us and enslave us. I am so sick of our oppressive government.

They have an US vs. THEM mentality...

This has some implications for our future. Will the government find local LEO's sufficient, or will they need to import Canadian and/or Mexican or other LEOs. In Iran, they needed Palie and Syrian help. In the recent situation in Syria, they used Iranian help. LEOs without local ties do have advantages to governments that increase repression.

Let’s call it what it really is...the city fearing a lawsuit because of out-of-control cops being caught on tape abusing authority. I hope this woman sues the heck out of them.

In WA State, it’s even worse. City of Everett Police basically executed two people in two years. One guy was an ass, but he was in his car and not cooperating with the police outside a diner on one of the busiest streets in the city.

What’s the officer do?

Fires eight rounds through the back window of the car through the seat, killing the UNARMED civilian where he sat. The year previous to that a guy locked out of his house got killed trying to get back in. Two cops put more than 10 rounds into the guy.

The victim was armed, but his gun was in the holster at the time in a pretty bad neighborhood.

WA State Patrol is just issuing tickets as many as they can write. They right you up for exactly 11 over, then ‘cut you a break’ by knocking it down to 5 over.

So much for ‘oath keepers’.

It is, quite literally, armed highway robbery.
