War On Terror: Opposing our military brass once again, the president announces the pullout of 30,000 troops from Afghanistan. With complete withdrawal expected by 2014, the Taliban now know they've won the long war.
More than 1,500 U.S. service personnel have been killed during nearly a decade of war in Afghanistan. In October, when the 10-year anniversary of the conflict is commemorated, we can expect the White House to make the most of the milestone by declaring victory.
But when the Taliban come swarming back down out of the mountains and across the border from Pakistan, and either take over or become a big part of the Afghan government, the families of the fallen are going to ask the obvious question: What did our loved ones die for?
What answer will the commander in chief have for them? How will he convince them that the blood of over 1,500 Americans was not spilled in vain when Afghan women are once again flogged under Sharia law for crimes like appearing in public unaccompanied by a blood relative, or not wearing a burqa?
When the Taliban once again make Afghanistan a haven for al-Qaida or other terrorist groups plotting to murder Americans within our homeland, how will Barack Obama convince anyone that his Afghan policy was a victory strategy?
Three years ago next month, during the campaign summer of 2008, candidate Obama said of Afghanistan, "This is a war that we have to win." He blamed the Bush administration for allowing the "dumb" conflict in Iraq to consume resources desperately needed in what we were to believe he considered "the smart war."
"I have argued for years," Obama said back then, "that we lack the resources to finish the job because of our commitment to Iraq."

Nothing!! If our troupes stay there 6 weeks or 60 years, the outcome is the same. It's been that way for over a thousand years.
If you've never seen it, get a copy of the old movie 'Song Of The South'. In it Uncle Remus tells a story about Br'er Rabbit and the Tar Baby. There's Tar Babes all over the world. Smart people avoid them.
After 9/11, we should have started bombing the Middle East from high altitude. After getting their attention, we could have struck a deal. "You stay on your side of the creek and we'll stay on our side." That would have included deporting all Muslims.
we can never change that country or region as long as the people follow islam
He was never for EITHER war, he just wanted a reason to bash President Bush. Now he's in charge, and he has no idea what to do.
No Declaration! No more Wars! Screw the politicians!
And we never, ever again deploy troops in WAR without Congressional Declaration as written in our Constitution.
How many brave, patriotic young American's have to die before our freaking politicians get it right.
And the waste continues!
Is there any way to win the war against the Taliban when they can run and hide and blend in with the people, many of who are afraid to help us because they know that some day we will go away?
I think there is, but not without the full and bold commitment of the CIC.
I know it’s kind of a joke...but that sentence sent chills through me.
It’s probably true. :(
We have no problem beating, we just can’t FIND them. The nature of every guerrilla war is to hit them hard when you can find them and hope to break their will. Unfortunately, the Taliban are religious fanatics, the absolute worst kind of fanatic.
They were always going to win. We need to get the Heck out of there and the sooner the beter. These folks like living in the 7th century. They do not want to change and I have no will to change them. Let them be.
Only this time, the madrassa teachers are following us home, to lacerate and murder us in our houses again.
And Obama knows it.
He just threw the war. Because he sympathizes with them. He's already told us that, when things got ugly, he'd side with the Moslems. He told us that. And of course our MiniTrue, the MSM, are doing their damnedest not to remember that, and to encourage us to forget, forget ....
Fortunately, there is a cure for that, as the British showed us at Omdurman. It's called ordnance.
Well, OBL was right, wasn’t he? He said you can’t trust the americans. They can’t maintain an action.
A sad lesson our allies like in the ME like Mubarek and Israel have learned these past couple of years.
Indeed
The Taliban has never killed anybody on American soil. They are a bunch of flea bitten illiterate barbarians who are indigenous to Afghanistan. They are Afghanistan. We ostensibly went into Afghanistan to get Osama and punish the Taliban for harboring him and his terror operatives. Osama is dead and there is not much Al Queda in Afghanistan so time to leave.
How would WWII have turned out if we had continued doing business with Germany and Japan and attacked India and Burma instead.
