Planned Parenthood is closing six clinics in outstate Minnesota on Aug. 1 because of federal budget cuts made this spring in a highly politicized abortion battle.
The state's largest provider of family planning and abortions announced the closures Monday, citing an 11 percent reduction in its budget because of cuts to the federal Title X program.
Closing are clinics in Thief River Falls, Brainerd, Red Wing, Owatonna, Albert Lea and Fairmont. They did not perform abortions, but provided services ranging from contraception to cervical cancer screenings to testing for sexually-transmitted diseases. Clients will be encouraged to use any of the 18 remaining Planned Parenthood facilities in the state and the organization's website.
The clinics being closed are among the smallest and are relatively close to clinics in larger cities such as Rochester and Mankato. Unaffected is Planned Parenthood's clinic in St. Paul, which performed nearly one-third of the 12,388 abortions in Minnesota in 2009.

The Guttmacher Institute, a nonprofit group based in New York, estimated this spring that without any Title X funding for low-income women and families, Minnesota would see a 17 percent increase in unintended pregnancies, a 24 percent increase in abortions and a 33 percent increase in teen births. Those figures were based on the complete elimination of Title X, as some Republican lawmakers had proposed, and not the last-minute cuts negotiated in April to avoid a federal shutdown.
Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., is among the lawmakers who called for de-funding Title X. While the program cannot fund abortions, lawmakers still opposed the secondary financial support it offered to organizations that provide them. "Taxpayer funds should not be directed to this heinous organization, especially at a time when our nation's debt exceeds $14 trillion," Bachmann's press secretary, Becky Rogness, said Monday.

Most excellent.
You know what? Planned Parenthood is smaller today in Minnesota (or when these cuts actually take place) than it was. We may have to nibble at this for another ten years. In the end, tens of thousands of living babies will thank us; and if not them, God.
I'm rejoicing today with this news. To me, it's not unlike the unions losing power (albeit a little) in Wisconsin, Illinois, New Jersey, and Ohio. I think we need to stop and be thankful for each step in the long journey back to true freedom and liberty.

Abortion and government money make Planned Parenthood very profitable and enable its leaders to be extremely well-paid.
So they close the clinics providing actual health services to save budget to continue running the abattoir.
just like the template all good Demrats use in every state /county/city in every budget negotiation anywhere:
threaten to cut police and fire (the sometimes useful and/or legitimate services) and keep funding the services most of the population doesn’t want or need or could live without.
It will be easier to eliminate them as the services supplied is whittled away to abortion only.
No real loss for Planned Abortion. None of the places they closed bring in abortion money, they just closed down a bunch of places DRAINING money from Planned Abortion’s coffers.
They will promptly reroute some of that money to democrats in the 2012 elections.
I think they must be called a more accurate name.
Planned No-Parenthood
Ah....there’s always an upside to the budget woes and this is definitely one!
12,388 abortions in Minnesota in 2009. What a tragedy......that the article seems proud of.
Planned Parenthood effort to censor damning videos on Youtube fails
Budget cuts close 6 Planned Parenthood clinics in Minnesota (Satan, Dems saddened)
Gee, that's too bad.
Not.
Of course. They close the "clinics" that don't do abortions, but keep open the ones that do. Tells you all you need to know about PP's priorities. Abortions before "cancer screenings." Figures.
I’ll celebrate with you! I am joyful every time a Planned Parenthood closes down. These 6 facilities still had blood on their hands as every one of them referred for surgical abortions and they did abortions chemically. Planned Parenthood repeatedly lies that they are the “only” place to get “health” services. I liked a quote I read (paraphrasing) “...it’s like saying that if all the McDonald’s closed down, people would starve.”
Our 3 Planned Parenthoods here don’t do surgical abortions but they refer to the local abortioinsts (my city has a population of over 1 million) and they also do chemical abortions.
In 1991, over 2000 abortion facilities existed nationwide....now it stands to about almost 700 in 2011. Crisis pregnancy centers now number abortion centers 5 to 1. No wonder the pro-abortion groups want to take real choices away from women by closing the cpc’s down...it’s cutting into the $$’s!.
Keeping its Ministry of Propaganda flourishing is more important to Big Abortion than keeping its clinics open.
“Further” the associate said, “ The population in these locations has declined to the point where service is unsustainable”
Of course they didn't close any abortion sites, killing babies is Planned Parenthood's revenue stream.
