With last week's debate behind them, Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Michele Bachmann, and others have officially kicked off the race for the GOP presidential nomination. But do any of them have the chops to topple Obama in 2012? Meghan McCain offers seven tips on what they should do between now and then.
Dear Republican candidates running for president in 2012:
You are up against one of the most media-beloved presidents in history, one journalists will do almost anything to protect. You are running against a man who has created a cult following and a narrative that transcends popular culture. How is it possible that this is the best were doing so far?
Now, before we get too ahead of ourselves, it is the beginning of summer and not exactly in the fall fever of primary politics. But just like an awkward blind date, you need a good opening line. The average American cant tell you the difference between Rick Perry and Jon Huntsman (yet). Most young voters my age don't remember Newt Gingrich's claim to fame; after all, the Clinton impeachment trial was so 90s.

For once, I am happy to see an article excerpted....
What the "Republican" intelligentsia simply needs to do is find a strong and articulate(true conservative)messenger to send a simple message to the American people....liberalism will destroy this country, and no better example of this is the vast majority of urban America, which has been almost 100% controlled by liberal democrats for the better part of 50 years....do you want YOUR city or town to emulate this model of generations of moral and economic decay? Is that the "hope and change" you want to leave to your children and grandchildren?
The "man"(loosely)Obama came from the cesspool that is Chicago/Illinois politics, and whose only claim to fame during that time was to propagate by agitation the same philosophies and methods that have led to the destruction of urban America.
The Republicans need a clear and concise messenger who can explain to the American people who miscreants like Saul Alinsky, George Soros, others of their ilk are....and that Obama is simply a protege of their world view....that of consolidated power among the unholy.
Actually, both are pretty idiotic. Any GOP candidate worthwhile should marginalize the MadCows, Chrissy Matthewss, Olberdorks, and anybody else associated with MSNBC and even CNN. If they want to acknowledge and talk to the clowns at ABC, NBC, and CBS as well as Fox, then go for it; but reaching out the the marxist loonies at MSNBC and CNN and Air America is a complete waste of time.
The best advice anyone could give a GOP wannabe for dealing with the media is to be prepared to push back. When they try to throw their little "gotcha" questions, challenge them with a question about why did they seem so overwhelmed by the presence of a Biden or Obama that they were oblivious to comments about the "57 states" or about FDR going on nationwide TV to address the Wall Street crash of 1929.
As for point 7, flipping the middle finger to the base just because you think they have nowhere else to go in order to reach out to the middle was a losing idea in 1996, and in 2008, and will still be a losing idea in 2012.
How is cozying up to a loon on a loon network going to actually gain votes?
You don't think the nominee will be interviewed on CNN or 60 Minutes?
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Forgetting about the Midwest will only make you unelectable in the general election as John McCain was.
Tip No. 6: Make Friends With Rachel Maddow...
And finally, Tip No. 7: This is the most important...forget the extreme right...
Meghan's real advice to others: Be sure to pick a mother with 100 million dollars like I did.
i didn’t mean interview with the hard left, but yes, anywhere they go, they need to call out the media and the other candidates. gloves off this round.
my point with 7 is that a true conservative candidate will have already shored up his or her base, based on their voting records and history, and though they will need to re-assure their conservative base, they will also need to cater quite a bit to moderates- especially in the primaries to draw votes away from those like romney.
the mistakes in 92, 96, and 08 was starting with a moderate candidate, then alienating the conservative base.
My other 6 points would be the same as your first: Ignore Meghan McCain
In that case, neither 6 nor 7 has even a kernel of truth. 6 is essentially a non-sequitor that GOP candidates either make friends with rachel madcow or they only hang out with fox news reporters. And 7 essentially states that the “far-right” is irrelevant. Meghan’s idea of the “far-right” is anybody that doesn’t think the Tea Party consists exclusively of racists.
I couldn't, either. She sounds like a teenaged girl.
Bound and determined to destroy America? Not cool at all.
I started to make a comment, but it came to me that to make a comment about something, that something needed to have some substance of value. I have no comment.
Who is she? SO—I will give my 7 tips to win as a Republican.
1. Bash Obama every chance you get—but make sure everything you hit him with is true—and back up with ironclad facts.
2. Never give in to any RINO social policies that are offensive and wrong. Know what you believe in and stick to it. If you hate Gay marriage say it—If you hate Abortion—stick to it rather than try to pander for votes.
3. Don’t be afraid to call out other Republicans if they stray from the fold. If you think they are wrong—Say so and stick to it. Don’t whim out!
4. Take on the media and their bloodhounds on TV —but pick you battles well. The cutting of “Under God” from the pledge is a prime example. All the loopy things San Francisco is doing is another.
5. Don’t try to “make friends” with the leftist Media-they will cut your throat in a heart beat (like they did McCain) to see their man in the White House.
6. Don’t be afraid to take on the traditional rivals and enemies of the USA—Look at the Traction Trump got from bashing the Chinese? Look at the bump Hillary got from her talk of Obliterating Iran?
7. Keep your sense of Humor! It saved Reagan—it could have seen Dole President—but his handlers didn’t let him use it.
And a 8th commandment—BE YOURSELF AND NOT WHAT YOUR HANDLERS THINK WILL GET YOU ELECTED. Be real—not fake.
We're going to paint the words "Goodyear" on her ass and send her up.
Love every single one of them.
And that is why fat chance she’ll take any until it’s way too late for her.
Mega-Mega Ditto.
Sammich, eh? Twinkle toes, etc.
Love our SS guys, they do have a sense of humor.
I’m shocked that Megs thinks Obama has caused damage “especially to the economy,”.
Did the cost of pork rinds go up? That must be it.
Surprisingly some of her advice isn’t bad, someone must have helped her with this. ;d
