Ex-Obama Aide Announces GOP Presidential Bid (Huntsman)

Liberty State Park, New Jersey (CNN) -- Not known for throwing out red meat to conservative audiences, former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman warned voters the country is facing an "un-American" future in his campaign kick-off speech Tuesday.

Huntsman took aim at the sluggish economy and mounting national debt in his remarks.

"We are about to pass down to the next generation a country that is less powerful, less compassionate, less competitive and less confident than the one we got. This is totally unacceptable and totally un-American," Huntsman said.

Launching his bid for the GOP presidential nomination in front of the Statue of Liberty, Huntsman paid tribute to Ronald Reagan in his remarks. Reagan kicked off his successful 1980 campaign from the same spot.

"He assured us we could 'make America great again,' and under his leadership we did. I stand in his shadow as well as the shadow of this magnificent monument to our liberty," Huntsman said.

Huntsman served as Ambassador to China under President Obama, a sticking point for some Republicans. The former diplomat called for a more civil tone toward the president in the upcoming campaign.

"He and I have a difference of opinion on how to help the country we both love," Huntsman said. "But the question each of us wants the voters to answer is who will be the better president; not who's the better American."

“Not known for throwing out red meat to conservative audiences....”

#####

I don’t read ignorant, assaultive trash that insults me in the first sentence.

What are Huntsman’s positions you oppose?

Do you even know his positions?

I don’t. All I know is a lot of people are trying very hard to define him to try to tear him down.

It’s quite transparent.

Specifics please. What are Huntsman’s positions you find unacceptable?

What for that matter is Huntsman’s position on globalism?

Perhaps that is your unspoken concern?...

Hmm?

He worked for Obama. Very recently.

No other specifics are needed.

What is Huntsman's comment on:
Mitt Romney FAKING Tea Party's across the country?

Fake-badge Mitt Romney and Bill Hudak
are linked to the creation
of fake 'Tea Party's, spawned for ROMNEY
including the very one which attacked Gov. Palin from Texas
(see post 11)

Says Obama “loves America”,,,

I think Obama has nothing but contempt and scorn for all things i have always thought of as “American”.

I oppose THAT Huntsman Position.

How about we figure out what Huntsman is about, before drawing conclusions.

My impression has always been that Obama picked Huntsman as US Ambassador to the PRC, *specifically* to eliminate him as a possible competitor in 2012.

That seems like a character reference, not a fault.

Are you opposed to doing your own research or incapable of it?

His first public position was that we should be more civil to Obama.

I am unalterably opposed to that idea. Obama should resign today and relocate abroad. He has no business as President, and should know that by now. His very presence is damaging to this country.

In 2007, in response to the problem of global warming, Huntsman signed the Western Climate Initiative, by which Utah joined with other governments in agreeing to pursue targets for reduced production of greenhouse gases. He also appeared in an advertisement sponsored by Environmental Defense, in which he said, “Now it’s time for Congress to act by capping greenhouse-gas pollution.”

And his entire family tree is too good for military service.

Oh, and he is “comfortale” with a mandate that individuals be forced to buy healthcare.

I know what he’s about,,, and have drawn a conclusion. And he looks like a metrosexual

His announcement was so exciting that FoxNews cut away after about 2 minutes.

Maybe, however, he will take enough primary votes away from Romney and both will turn out to be also-rans.

He aided and assisted the enemy, why should we trust him?

Which enemy: Obama, China, or both?

People get the idea that Huntsman's views are not conservative ... based on Huntsman's own words:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV8HFHkX3PA

Or maybe it's his actions:

Utah Governor Boards The McCain Bandwagon (This was during the primaries, when there were other, much better choices available).

Maybe it was his "love letters" to Obama?

Oh, and here are what progressives are saying about him: REPORT: Jon Huntsman’s Secret Life As A Progressive

By the way, since you are asking for specifics ..... lets go back to this discussion:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2736660/posts

... where you stated, in post #42, that Huntsman was “Possibly the best candidate in either party, to deal with the PRC.”

I asked you, in post #56: "Really? Just what did he accomplish for the USA as ambassador to China?"

*** crickets ***

Never got an answer. Do you have any specifics as to why you think he is the best candidate to deal with the PRC? And no, I don't think his ability to speak a couple of the dialects makes him the most qualified. What about his policies and tactics do you think makes him the most qualified, and did he accomplish anything on behalf of the US as ambassador to China?

How about we figure out what Huntsman is about, before drawing conclusions.

Here's something for starters: news/us_politics/view.bg?articleid=1339432&srvc=rss Doesn't go directly to link, so I posted text here.

N.H. Republicans slam Jon Huntsman’s push for illegals’ rights,

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman — in New Hampshire this weekend to test the waters for a possible run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination — is coming under fire from Granite State Republicans for supporting in-state tuition breaks for illegal immigrants in his home state.

Huntsman, who was slated to give the commencement address today at Southern New Hampshire University, supported a 2002 law in Utah that allows illegal immigrants to pay lower rates at state colleges if they graduate from a Utah high school or get a high school equivalency degree. The former governor, who recently stepped down as ambassador to China — a post he was appointed to by President Obama — battled his own party’s efforts to overturn the law in 2007.

Not a concern, of course, if one doesn't see the presently undeclared, but possible implicit support for "comprehensive immigration reform". I suspect where this level of sympathy exists, something larger looms in his mind.
