Home Depot petitions delivered - see their response June 6, 2011

On Thursday, June 3, American Family Association delivered 474,161 petition signatures to Home Depot chairman Frank Blake. AFA also addressed the board of directors and shareholders during their annual meeting.

AFA Vice-president Buddy Smith appealed to Chairman Blake to review Home Depot's extensive support for homosexual activism and direct the company toward neutrality in the culture war.

Chairman Blake quickly discounted the petitions by reaffirming Home Depot's commitment to dedicating corporate resources to groups who advocate gay marriage and the advancement of homosexuality and transgenderism.

Why would a large corporation want to offend a big segment of the population that is not happy with promoting sexual perverts? Hope they end up bankrupt.

Just a question: Are petitions like these actually effective?

I really don’t know where Lowes stands on this subject but they sure keep their mouth shut....as it should be in business. Not only that, I prefer Lowes over Home Depot just because they seem to know what they are doing. I’ve never been in a Lowes store when I didn’t get the help I needed.

“Are petitions like these actually effective?”

One might as well as if one’s vote is actually effective. Oftentimes it is not, but I vote anyway. I would think that a lot of petitioners, and a lot of lost sales, would be just as effective as a lot of votes. I may not sign a petition, but I'll skip the Home Depot stop and go to Lowes.

HD is a private business, one word will work better than a million names on a petition...

Lowes is good for everything except paint. Behr is simply the best.

I initially stopped going to Home Depot because the people working there would run away when I needed help with ceramic tile.

Then I heard about how they tried to steal the technology for the safety guard on their wood cutting jig. They lost in court but the attitude demonstrated is the kind I don’t like to do business with.

Now its this, where they refuse to stay neutral and openly advocate people who openly hate conservatives and christians.

A pox on Home Despot.

In my suburban township, we have a Home Depot and a Lowe’s within 3 blocks of each other! I go the extra mile and shop at ACE.

Just a question: Are petitions like these actually effective?

It's what happens after the petition is presented that matters. Some companies act quickly to correct course when presented with something like this. Those who do not, and in fact openly refuse to back away from homosexual activism support, will probably then be subjected to a nationwide call for boycott.

Happened to K-Mart Corp years ago over I think display of porn mags in their Waldenbooks subsidiary, if I remember correctly. Nationwide boycott lasted for several years as their top dog adamantly refused to listen and respond to customer concerns.

Might not be the only factor, but look at their sales numbers over that time period and it's pretty convincing. The AFA finally called off the boycott after the top dog was replaced and new guy took action to sell off Waldenbooks: http://afajournal.org/1995/11-1295AFAJ.pdf

Bottom line for Home Depot: Pay attention to your customers and at least move to a neutral position on something like this -- or pay for it in lost sales.

I’m committed to the Ryobi cordless tools which are only available at HD, but everything else comes from Lowes.

We have an Ace near us and I am continuously amazed at all the stuff they carry that I need. Yesterday, I bought some VHS-C tapes there. My wife said I was nuts to stop there and see if they had them. They did, I won. Woo-hoo.
