The Shirelles - Soldier Boy
(click for YouTube)

Monster hit in 1962, reached # 10 on Billboard.
Stayed in the Top 40 for 13 weeks.

Lyrics to Soldier Boy by The Shirelles

Soldier boy
Oh, my little soldier boy
I'll be true to you

You were my first love
And you'll be my last love
I will never make you blue
I'll be true to you
In the whole world
You can love but one girl
Let me be that one girl
For I'll be true to you

Wherever you go
My heart will follow
I love you so
I'll be true to you
Take my love with you
To any port or foreign shore
Darling you must feel for sure
I'll be true to you

Soldier boy
Oh, my little soldier boy
I'll be true to you

True Wealth
June 17, 2011

Money is a powerful force. We work for it, save it, spend it, use it to satisfy our earthside longings, and then wish we had more. Aware of its distracting danger, Jesus taught more about money than any other topic. And, as far as we know, He never took an offering for Himself. Clearly, He didn’t teach about giving to fill His own pockets. Instead, Jesus warned us that trusting in wealth and using it to gain power clogs our spiritual arteries more readily than most other impediments to spiritual development. In telling the story of the “rich fool,” He shamed His listeners for not being rich toward God (Luke 12:13-21), indicating that God has a far different definition of wealth than most of us.

So, what does it mean to be rich toward God? Paul tells us that those who are rich should not be conceited about their wealth, “nor to trust in uncertain riches” (1 Tim. 6:17). Rather, we are to “be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share” (v.18).

Interesting! God measures wealth by the quality of our lives and our generous disbursement of wealth to bless others. Not exactly Wall Street insider talk, but great advice for those of us who think that our security and reputation are tied up in the size of our bank account.

If we’ve been blessed with riches,
We must be rich in deeds;
God wants us to be generous
In meeting others’ needs. —Sper

Riches are a blessing only to those
who make them a blessing to others.

Read: 1 Timothy 6:6-19

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God. —1 Timothy 6:17

“Recovery Mission” and “High Five” bring back memories of shipmates who served in Harbor Clearance Unit way back when.

One was a classmate in Diving School and the other a Chief Petty Officer in the Diving Locker aboard USS PIEDMONT (AD-17). Great guys!!!

Good morning, Everyone.

Good morning to

Thank you, Ma, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.

The DC Metroland weather report

~ Today...Mostly cloudy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon.
Highs in the upper 80s. West winds 5 to 10 mph.
Chance of rain 50 percent.

~ Tonight...Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening...
Then partly cloudy after midnight. Lows in the mid 60s.
West winds around 5 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.

Whew! Did we have a storm pass through about 1 a.m.
Lightning strike somewhere close to home cause the thunder
sounded like it was right over the house.
We must have had three different rain showers
after I got home from work.
It would rain, clear up a bit, hours later the same thing.

Then, that thunder-boomer last night.
Must have had some heavy winds
cause I'm seeing a lot of limbs and trash scattered around.

Then, more excitement here...
a suspicious vehicle near the Pentagon.
Got roads closed in time for morning commute.
Good thing it's Friday...traffic's light.

(did I mention I'm thrilled it's Friday?)

Time for me to make my rounds. But, you stay right where you are.
Don't leave the room...I'll be bock!

Remember, the Canteen is ALWAYS

Come in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM - DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM
