Los Angeles -- The Los Angeles school board on Tuesday voted to eliminate chocolate and strawberry milk from schools as of July 1.
LAUSD joins a growing number of school districts nationwide, including in the District of Columbia, Boulder Valley, Colo., and Berkeley, Calif., that serve only plain milk because of the added sugar contained in flavored versions.
The proposal by Superintendent John Deasy came after popular British TV chef Jamie Oliver criticized the district in recent months for serving flavored milks, saying they contain the sugar equivalent of a candy bar.

Most certainly eliminating recess for lessons in putting condoms on cucumbers was not a wise decision either.
We drank whole milk. We had to take the thick rich cream off the top of the gallon jar.
I have yet to taste real butter that tastes as good of what we used to make at home.
The 50’s were the best of times.
Ever notice3 that kids weren’t fat before free lunches!! They’re overeating. It’s CALORIES!!!
That’s racist! Bet they’d never ban chocolate milk in New Orleans.
Were you aware that milk has anti-cholesterol agents?
WOW
Now the children have no reason to go to LA schools
I agree...the thought of drinking something from the teat of a cow..makes me cringe...unless of course if it is ice cold and nice chocolate chip cookie goes with it. Adding Nesquik also helps.
so will they expel students who bring their own hersheys syrup now too? Or ban Hershey’s as a potential weapon?
Nothing surprising anymore.
LOL... suddenly I want a gallon of fresh whole milk. ;>)
Irony. In most countries, the poor are skinny. In ours, fat. Having done their best to fatten poor kids, the liberals now decide to make them skinny again.
If chocolate milk is outlawed, only outlaws will have chocolate milk.
Well you kind of got it right. Since this is the LAUSD most of their students fet free breakfast and free lunch. They can do with them what they want as far as I am concerned.
They’ve also been pulling this BS here in New york city as well, and for quite some time, going completely overboard. For example you now cannot smoke in the steet in Times square. Rats love to ban stuff because they love to make the government look more powerful than the people. And I hope they keep doing it, ban everything, ban clothes, make everyone wear a Mao suit. F every last moron in this city who keeps voting DemocRat every election. Give ‘em what they want, let them learn the hard way.
When I was a kid, the milk came in glass bottles shaped somewhat like a bowling pin. Cream on top, with a paper lid with tab on top. My mother would pour the cream into a pitcher and we woukd drink the bluejon. Occasionally we would shake the bottle up, mixing in the cream. After WWII, they started selling homogenized milk and sold it in cartons. and the cream came more often in small bottles/cartons. My only real memory of kindergarten—in the days when the kids were not being prepped for Harvard— was a half-pint of chockolate milk for lunch.
Half & Half for me.
He can make a Quik buck.
You think this is bad, the public schools in my area ban non-healthy snacks from school. The kids are told what they can and cannot bring for lunch or snack time.
Did you get them in the half pint carton like I did here in New York? Then when the carton was empty we would jump on it and it would bang and drive our teacher crazy. So all lunch hour all you would hear would be bang bang bang bang bang LOL.
couldn’t they ration them instead and use voucher a book stamps?
