A couple weeks ago we showed you the shocking video of an Egyptian Muslim cleric advocating jihad and saying financial problems could be solved by selling captives like groceries. Now, that same cleric is back, and hes supposedly claiming his words were taken out of context. But the way hes defending himself is curious, especially when you consider it involves him justifying buying sex slaves.
The website Translating Jihad, which first published the earlier video, explains that in the follow-up video (which consists of a 20-minute phone interview), Egyptian Shaykh Abu-Ishaq al-Huwayni contends that his words in that clip were taken out of contexthe was talking within the larger topic of offensive jihad. Additionally, the site says, he explains the meaning of offensive jihad, and establishe[s] through sources in the Quran and sayings of Muhammad that both offensive jihad and the taking of spoils of war, namely slaves and sex-slaves, are legitimate under Islam.

"Do you understand what Im saying? Spoils, slaves, and prisoners are only to be taken in war between Muslims and infidels. Muslims in the past conquered, invaded, and took over countries. This is agreed to by all scholarsthere is no disagreement on this from any of them, from the smallest to the largest, on the issue of taking spoils and prisoners. The prisoners and spoils are distributed among the fighters, which includes men, women, children, wealth, and so on."

He has little patience for those whose proclivities tend toward nurturing and cultivating ( of the flocks). He scorns nurturing considering it evidence of weakness.(homophobia) He is not inclined towards cultivating crops or shepherding as his brother Jacob. He prefers to hunt and to get his food by taking it down as hunters do. Esau may well be the stereotypical hustler, predator and bad guy. Esau is forever at war among himself.
Arabs cant live together, ergo any prophesied Third Caliphate is likely doomed. Unless a new Saladin arises like Imam Hussein, there will be no Caliphate
This is nothing new. All civilizations till recently waged aggressive war on their enemies and made war pay, at least for the victorious leaders. Captives were just another form of loot, often the most valuable one.
Julius Caesar personally sold something like 2M Gauls into slavery over the course of his 10 year conquest. Which made him far and away the wealthiest man in Rome.
This continued during the Middle Ages, when ransoms of wealthy captives, usually nobles, were traded like stocks. Since you could no longer sell a non-rich captive as a slave, they were generally just killed.
During the wars in the Med between Venice, Spain and the Turks, both sides sold captives as slaves or used them to row their galleys.
The odd thing about the guy here is not his explanation of history, which is quite accurate, it’s his apparent belief that this is still proper, or should be. Most of the rest of the world has moved beyond this, for all its other problems.
Of course if you believe sharia is the proper code of behavior, you’re pretty much stuck with this POV. Otherwise you’re forced to say Mo and the boys were wrong for all those centuries.
“What can we say about the character of Esau? Well this much we know. He scorns his spiritual inheritance and blessings. A profane man, he lives by the sword or by force of arms. Does he put his trust in guns and military armaments first and foremost? Esau was always inclined to be violent and wrathful. “
I think that you need to reread Genesis 33. You have mischaracterized Esau.
Arabs (by ethnicity) haven’t controlled the caliphate since around 940. Various Kurdish, Persian, Berber, Circassian, Turkish and other groups have. Though the Prophet’s relatives were kept around as a figurehead right up to the Mongol conquest.
The Mongols didn’t care a hoot about such things. They rolled the last caliph up in his most expensive rug and ran a herd of horses across him.
37And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
38And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
39And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;
40And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.
41And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.
The description of Esau as a military man comes from this prophecy, not from his actions as recorded in the Bible.
Esau had very good reason to be ticked off with his sneaky lying twin. However, as you point out chapter 33 shows he got over it and welcomed him honorably and peacefully when he could have killed him easily.
I wonder how they would feel about Christians or Jews making sex slaves of their wives / daughters after they were killed in a battle. Would they consider it allowed under the laws of Islam or would they think that was some type of atrocity? It would be an interesting exercise to see if that would be considered acceptable.
There is nothing - NOTHING - that justifies letting this band of nose-picking, crotch-grabbing homicidal savages known as Muslims have any part in the modern world.
How did we end up becoming virtually subject to them? I lived the first decades of my life in the US virtually never hearing about them, and now suddenly we care what they think and we are bowing before their brutish, violent stupidity.
I agree......the clerics explanation is quite accurate; indeed, selling POW’s was the norm, until quite recently (provided they were rich, mind you).
I see two problems here. You elucidated the first one, that the rest of the world has moved on from this practice. Culturally speaking, Islam is, shall we say, reticent to change.....it is inherently traditionalistic. While this can be an admirable trait, it depends on the issue at hand, i.e., the rights of women, allowance, or at least tolerance of, other faiths, etc., etc.
The other problem is, for this cleric at least, a more personal one. When you’ve something appallingly stupid, it’s a better course of action to not follow up with something worse.
I sincerely hope his wife, his daughter, or some random female whups him upside the head with a cast-iron frying pan, or the equivalent thereof.
Stupid should hurt.
Interesting analysis.
It's just some guy who speaks at the Mosque, or who does law cases.
It's like running an independent church with a janitor as the head guy.
Most of the IGNANCE is generated by people who really are IGNANT.
These people aren't just barbaric, they're not really in touch.
In most of the world you wouldn't go to the local auto mechanic for spiritual advice ~ but in Egypt you'd be lucky to find a guy who was that educated.
I gather from the discussions this fellow needs a date bad.

“The Mongols didnt care a hoot about such things. They rolled the last caliph up in his most expensive rug and ran a herd of horses across him.”
When nomads were nomads and the sheep were in terror!

You must have missed all those government PSAs bleating about how diversity is our strength.
This country went off the gold standard in 1971, per Nixon.
Then we had Jimmy, the Dept of Energy and the Dept of Education. It has been down hill ever since. I think it was Nixon that gave us the EPA.
Some claim that was the beginning of the rise of the Arab state. They used our US dollar to in exchange for cheap oil, some said that the dollar was backed with oil though this. Some goldbugs claim that we also gave them our gold, because the Saudi’s aren’t stupid. Who knows?
The end game approaches. I don’t think the rest of the world will be wanting our dollars for much longer. No, they will be wanting much MORE than our money, maybe they will sell those mortgages they have been giving to Fannie and Freddie to help our banks to the Saudi’s? or the Eurotrash? Some of those mortgages are sitting on the FEDs balance sheets, rotting, stinking. I am sure they want to get rid of them.
or would they think that was some type of atrocity?
/// of course they do. that is why they make false accusations of rape against Christians, including our soldiers. to raise the “righteous anger”.
their scripture is very clear. you can be killed for killing a Muslim. you CANNOT be killed for killing a Christian.
they believe GOD HIMSELF has given permission to them, to take the booty and slaves of non-Muslims. it is not an interpretation. it is crystal clear in their scripture.
Mohammad HIMSELF had sex with a young captive woman, his men had just made a widow. he said you could keep what you captured “with your right hand”.
...and Islam teaches he was the “perfect man”, and should be emulated...
It’s like running an independent church with a janitor as the head guy.
/// respectfully, it is like a janitor with at least a 4 year divinity degree. many Sunni clerics are proud of their education at top universities like Al-Azhar in Egypt.
...as comparison, Baptists may not have fancy clergy like Catholics, but they still have many highly educated ministers.
and there is much LESS difference between Sunni and Shia, than between Baptists and Catholics.
in doctrine and theology, there is almost zero difference.
(the reason for the split, was simply over whether the Caliph should be related to Mo or not.)
as Baynative said so perfectly:
” Spoils, slaves, and prisoners are only to be taken in war between Muslims and infidels. Muslims in the past conquered, invaded, and took over countries. This is agreed to by all scholarsthere is no disagreement on this from any of them, from the smallest to the largest, on the issue of taking spoils and prisoners. “
...there is no “tiny minority of extremists. “misinterpreting” their OWN religion.
yes, some Muslims are “moderate”, like “cafeteria catholics”.
but there is NO disagreement on this, or ANY other major point, by devout Muslims. whether Sunni or Shia.
Juet because C.A.I.R. spokesmen practice taquiyya on us, doesn’t mean they don’t all admit in private, that age 53 Mohammad married Aisha when she was 6, and “thighed” her until she was 9, when he began full sex with her.
the perfect man, who should be emulated...
“This is agreed to by all scholars”
I love that his “clarification” indicates that he still strongly believes in slavery, as long as it’s for infidels.
It's not just insane mullahs or imams who mouth absurdities accepted as gospel by millions.
"I summon my blue-eyed slaves anytime it pleases me. I command the Americans to send me their bravest soldiers to die for me. Anytime I clap my hands a stupid genie called the American ambassador appears to do my bidding. When the Americans die in my service their bodies are frozen in metal boxes by the US Embassy and American airplanes carry them away, as if they never existed. Truly, America is my favorite slave." --- King Fahd Bin Abdul-Aziz, Jeddeh 1993
