The trove of more than 13,000 emails detailing almost every aspect of Sarah Palins governorship of Alaska, released late on Friday, paints a picture of her as an idealistic, conscientious, humorous and humane woman slightly bemused by the world of politics.
One can only assume that the Left-leaning editors who dispatched teams of reporters to remote Juneau, the Alaskan capital, to pore over the emails in the hope of digging up a scandal are now viewing the result as a rather poor return on their considerable investment.
If anything, Mrs Palin seems likely to emerge from the scrutiny of the 24,000 pages, contained in six boxes and weighing 275 pounds, with her reputation considerably enhanced. As a blogger at Powerline noted, the whole saga might come to be viewed as an embarrassment for legacy media.
Mrs Palin, who suddenly resigned as Alaska governor in July 2009, is no longer a public official. She holds no position in the Republican party. Despite the media hubbub that surrounds her every move, she is unlikely to be a candidate for the White House in 2012.
She is, however, viewed with a kind of horrified fascination by many in the media, who faithfully records everything she says and does while at the same time decrying her as ignorant and even evil.
Whether or not she runs for the White House and the solid consensus among Republican leaders is that she wont the scramble over the Palin emails confirms her status as a pivotal figure in the race to challenge President Barack Obama next year.....

This e-mail episode is definitely a plus for Palin. It is exactly the kind of thing that will chip away at her high unfavorables among the middle and improve her standing even among Republicans. If that continues--Palin as "dedicated honest public servant" rather than the perception of her as a lightweight reality-show celebrity--it will help her chances greatly.
Karl Rove, Charles Krauthammer, Meghan McCain, Steve Schmidt, Lindsey Graham, Ed Rollins and David Frum, if I had to guess.
What’s worse, inventing a bunch of b.s. to tarnish Palin’s image or actually believing it? I’m sure these fools thought these emails were going to prove their distorted, cartoonish version of Palin that they never stop trying to sell the public. No doubt they thought they were on the verge of exposing all sorts of underhandedness and corruption.
I’m getting a lot of entertainment out of this. Think of all the campus liberals and older idiots with stunned looks on their faces as reality crashes head-on with their world view. I wonder how they’ll double down on their idiocy when this ploy blows up in their faces?
The less trash they find on Sarah the more frenzied and crazy they will become.
The networks have almost ignored the Weiner weiner scandal where the facts are laid out before them. But they are tripping over themselves looking for a needle in a haystack hoping it has Sarah’s name on it.
And yet they all act first dumbfounded, then insulted, whenever the question of their media bias comes up.
“Both somewhat lefty, but the Guardian MUCH more so.”
Way mo! The spin they’re applying at the Guardian is truly stunning!@
I did some for the Guardian last night. I put all of them into the “nothing of interest” boxes which was, in fact, the truth. They spent money for the copies, manpower, and flying up there to get the emails, and ended up with egg on their face resulting in a much stronger, classier, compassionate, hardworking governor.
Stirring the s#*t doesn't usually work her at FreeRepublic, as you'll someday learn if you're allowed to stay.
Ahhh, I feel much better now.
There should be some way to flip this entirely around; eg; to portray this effort as the MSM finally successfully doing what they were supposed to do (investigate critically but objectively) and finding what they found, which is nothing...despite the overwhelming bias they carried into the exercise.
From the BBC:
DAILY TELEGRAPH Circulation: 814,087 Political allegiance: In recent decades it has been seen as Conservative through and through - known as "The Torygraph" to readers of Private Eye. Stayed loyal to the Conservatives in the last two elections, when others didn't. Hugely critical of Labour and Gordon Brown. Its pages have not been uncritical of David Cameron, but it is expected to champion him at the next election. It was a strongly Liberal paper in its early days, so much so that it used to describe Gladstone as the "People's William".
She’ll be able to campaign on the strength of her public service record as documented in the NYT and WaPo now ;-)
Indeed. As the 18th century hymn says: "God works in mysterious ways, His wonders to behold".
What we've seen here is a VACCINATION of the political sort.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The woman is brilliant.
You’re quoting the BBC, which is just slightly to the right of the Guardian?
Whether or not she runs for the White House and the solid consensus among Republican leaders is that she wont....Whether or not she runs for the White House and the solid consensus among Republican leaders is that they hope she wont. There, fixed it.
Absolutely and her trust in God never falters.
We must truly believe that He is watching over his servant, Sarah Palin.
Keep praying.
The Telegraph lied about Margaret Thatcher calling Palin a nut. They are not to be believed.
They just can't believe that there is someone out in this World (well there are many) who are just plain GOOD people, don't kill their babies, don't mess around on their spouse, educated, don't take to people telling them how to think, just good clean fun loving REAL AMERICANS.
After all the Liberal Media/Hollywood have spent over 50 years tearing the Morals of American down to what they are today,Sarah and her family are a real threat to that, it might catch on,(hoping). God bless Sarah and her family.
