The U.S. is “playing with fire” over its debt ceiling debate and, “there is a risk a U.S. debt default may happen,” according to Chinese central bank advisor Li Daokui.

Speaking at a conference in Beijing, Daokui said, according to Reuters:

“If a default happens, the Chinese government should have a consultation with the U.S. government. China can promise that we will not sell our holdings of U.S. debt, but the United States must also promise that you will not hurt our interests by guaranteeing the safety of our investment... I really worry about the risks of a U.S. debt default, which I think may lead to a decline in the dollar’s value.”

A Chinese ratings house has accused the United States...

How many minutes will pass before the Enemedia and other Progressives demand that we conduct fiscal policy based on the propaganda from this nation's other enemy?

(between enemies both foreign and domestic)

From the article:
China is by far the top holder of US debt and has in the past raised worries that the massive US stimulus effort launched to revive the economy would lead to mushrooming debt that erodes the value of the dollar and its Treasury holdings.
Even the ChiComs know nobama is an idiot. Which leads me to wonder why they continue to buy our bonds.

Am I understanding this right...they want us to raise the debt ceiling? Sounds like the Chinese are trying to influence our politics.

Might have worked, the GOP are now talking about compromising on the debt ceiling.

And that's just plain racist talk (as long as we have Obama, at least). For that's what is said... when the Republicans are the one's saying it.

So. When can we start the trade war?

I think what the Chinese are saying is that we have already started a trade war. Deflating a nation's currency is a definite and costly trade barrier. The Chinese did the same by pegging the Yuan to the Dollar. Also, we are screwing the Chinese in the capital account by devaluing their reserves.. is it a wonder why nations are calling for a change to the dollar as the world currency reserve...

CNN, you ask a good question. I think the answer is that all nations are in a constant "trade war" with all other nations all the time. Some of these wars are fought at an extremely low level with armies of lawyers rather than soldiers, for example Canada vs. USA. Some are fought with armies of bureaucrats, like the conflicts within the European Union. Some are fought at a higher level with currency controls, subsidies, and "non-tariff trade barriers". That is where every other nation is with China.

The problem with the Chinese is that they keep upping the ante. It could be argued that if the Chinese "lose" this war, millions will starve or, at least, the regime will be overthrown. That's why they keep increasing the stakes.

I meant to add, that, like the “war on terror” the vast majority of Americans don’t know they are in a trade war with China. And the government doesn’t want them to think about it.

It’s sad to see so many otherwise sensible, patriotic conservatives ready to blame America first.

Shocking really.

Just think Obama just forgave Egypt of all debt and wants to bail out Greece. As if we have unlimited supply of money.

Barry Goldwater on the CFR and Trilaterals, Bildegerger’s off-shoots:

“the Council on Foreign Relations and its ancillary elitist groups are indifferent to Communism. They have no ideological anchors. In their pursuit of a new world order they are prepared to deal without prejudice with a communist state, a socialist state, a democratic state, monarchy, oligarchy – it’s all the same to them.” (With No Apologies p.278)

“What the Trilaterals truly intend is the creation of a worldwide economic power superior to the political governments of the nation-states involved… As managers and creators of the system they will rule the future.” (With No Apologies, p. 285)
